    S40 or Mazda 6
    Looks, performance, economy, ...
Anyway, that's what I'd get if you was you, which I'm not.

may be personal choice here, but i would pick a Skoda Octavia VRS TDi

Mazda 6 or Mondeo. Drove both and loved them, although not that pushed on the interior of the new mondeo unless ya go for the titanium model.

If it had to be something on the list above I'd pick the Volvo or the Skoda.

    From 1 to 10;
    1. vw passat
    2. mazda 6
    3. for mondeo
    4. volvo s40
    5. skoda superb (due to be replaced soon)
    6. citroen c5 (the new one)
    7. toyota avensis (must be due for replacing soon though)
    8. renault laguna (only if it proves to be better than the last one)
    9. opel vectra (is due to be replaced soon)
    10. nissan primera (are they still making this thing)

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Citroen C5 - most comfortable
Superb - if I needed the space

    i would go for
1st new c5 (not the old one)
    2nd peugeot 407.
you will get the best goodies in a french car and you wont have to take the hit in depreciation.

407 : too old but SW nice machine

Passat : nice interior on comfortline but 1.9TDI 105Bhp for that cash

Laguna : well kitted. 1.5DCI only for now I think. Amazed your boss is open to this considering their past record.

Superb: Do not know them but pretty sure it's the 1.9TDI for that cash

C5 : Huge but still does'nt look nice

Avensis : Aura spec diesal not very nice inside.

S40 : 1.6 diesal for your budget. Same size as Focus and BIK would be cheaper on the Focus. Lovely interior.

Mondeo : negociating for this at moment. 1.8 125bhp zetec diesal for that budget. Drives well but interior a bit plastic fantastic

    Vectra : too old

6 : Very nice diesal engine. Goes like a bullet. New look exterior is nice. Mid spec always nice but not sure your budget stretchs that far

Primera : gone. Tida replacement looks awful. Same engine as laguana.

Tidda actually replaced the Almera not the Primera. A new model Primera will be available in Ireland and a few other European countries within the next 12 months. 100% agree though the Tidda is a horrible looking car, it doesn't look nice from any angle imo.

OP out of the list you have I would put the Mondeo and Mazda 6 at the top.

    I'd rate them:

    1. Mazda 6 - looks well, drives exceptionally well
2 Ford mondeo - not keen on looks, but good kit and handling for the price
3 VW passat - For the first time in VW's life the reputation is worse than the car. 1.9 among the poorest engines here, 2 litre if possible is the one.
4 Toyota avensis - dull but competent.
5 Volvo S40 - 1.6 diesel excellent, but 2 litre better in this
6 Opel vectra - Very good diesel engines from Fiat, good sound insulation, that's all.
7 Citroen C5 - Looks different. Well kitted.
8 Nissan primera - Looks fairly terrible, reasonably reliable, reasonably well kitted.
9 Renault laguna - Looks OK, drives better than some others in this class, but a good bit away from class leading.
10 Skoda Superb - Looks fairly crap, slightly worse handling than the last B5 Passat, which wasn't great, outdated and about to be replaced.

As it's a company car and you won't care about depreciation it has to be the new Citroen C5.

Its the best looking car in that class.

Because running costs, reliability or depreciation aren't your concern, I'd take one of:

vw passat - Pretty classy in the driveway. Good solid car.
skoda superb - Huge, some good specs, unusual.
volvo s40 - The right spec has brilliant kit.
for mondeo - The best a mass-market car can get.

    Thank You German Rocks.

Unfortunately I have to buy my own car. I've ordered a Passat 2.0Tdi DSG Highline. Mainly for interior and residuals. Its a pity about the lead in time though. I still have six weeks to wait.

my preference would be the mondeo , alot of car for the money

IMO seeing as the only issue affecting you is comfort , I'd go with the one that would be the nicest to spend time inside of. The rest is pretty irrelevant.

The vRS they're talking about has a 3.6 V6 petrol under the bonnet.

Its a good looking car allright. I wonder what the pricing will be seeing that it will be launched in Ireland post July.

Indeed, which is the same running gear as the Passat R36.
I initially liked the look of the new Superb, but now that I've seen more pictures I realise that it does indeed look chronic.
