    Hi

I developed quite a taste for the Sam Adam beers while in Boston recently especially the brewmasters collection. Can anyone tell me if there are any specialist off-licences that import these beers in the Dublin and Leinster area.
I live in Portarlington and work in Dublin so anywhere round Kildare, Laois and Dublin would be great.

    Many thanks

You'll find the same Samuel Adams range that RealBeers have in Redmond's of Ranelagh. I've not seen the Brewmaster series, though Redmond's did have the Holiday Porter in recently which I thought was fantastic.

Plus, of course, Boston Lager is now regularly stocked by Tesco and Superquinn. Oh the times they are a-changin'...

Have seen Sam Adams around a fair bit in my travels, lager is in Tesco and SQ,O'Briens stock the cider and the seasonals also, molloys have black, cider, ale and the lager, the usual supects in Dublin (Redmonds/Mchughs etc) seem to have the whole range

I'm a big fan of Sam Adams too! My local O'Brien's in Malahide stocks it along with many of the different brews (Summer, Winter, etc.).

I was so surprised to see it in there that I asked the staff about it. They said that most of the O'Brien's stock it, they just tend not to get a huge amount per delivery.

Absolutely, had one with my dinner this evening, a delicious flavour to it. Will definitely drink again.

While I was in restocking on Holiday Porter today I noticed Redmond's are now doing the Samuel Adams Winter Lager and the Boston Ale, the latter of which is in the Brewmaster's series.

Both are sold by the six-pack only, damn them

Edit: I just noticed that the Holiday Porter is actually one of the Brewmaster's Series.

I bought a single bottle of the Winter last night in O'Brien's in Finglas.

So people in Ranelagh will pay for a full six-pack of exotic beer, while people in Finglas won't. How terribly terribly odd...

Yeah, I will be looking for both these beers, sold individually, elsewhere.

Actually, I was buying a few different beers because I couldn't decide on just one :o

But the Winter, and a few other Sam Adams were definitely being sold seperately.

Now that I think of it though, one of the bottles he dcanned didn't go in correctly, and he had to do something with it to charge me, it may have been the Winter, so the Finglas staff may not have been told to sell it as six-pack only

I didn't even drink it last night, so I'm looking forward to trying it later in the week.:)

Very good site, for sheer variety. And delivery is a plus too.

But do you notice the prices are the same, or more as individual bottles in an off-licence, despite selling in bulk?

On the flipside, if you're not lucky enough to live near a well stocked off-licence, they will deliver for a very reasonable rate.

You can get a 4/6 pack in Supervalue on aston quay (old virgin megastore) can remember the type tho....

It's just Boston Lager, IIRC. It's getting out and about quite a bit: Tesco and Superquinn both stock it as a regular these days, which is great to see.

I have always found Boston Lager readily available in the O Brien's chain stores. Even a few years ago you could always be guaranteed something tasty when you dropped by.

Well I dropped by the Rathgar branch on Thursday and there was bugger-all worth buying.

I haven't been in an O Brien's in a while. Perhaps Boston Lager has been replaced by an Eastern European lager that will out sell Boston Lager by ten to one.

I have seen Boston Lager in most of the O'Briens outlets,O'briens rathgar and rathmines could badly do with a revamp in comparison to their new store in the Beacon Court

try Redmonds of Ranelagh, they just don't follow what ever the in beer are of the moment

I've seen the black lager, regular Sam Adams that's everywhere, their "hardcore" cider and occasionally the Oktoberfest in Molloys. They're all sold in singles if the heart desires.
Had a sixer of the black lager the other night... hadn't tried it before and I made such a mistake. It's really a beer to enjoy with a meal, kinda chocolatey spiceyness to it... definitly not a brew to be knockin' back with the lads. I was actually feeling quite full after finishing them.

My local Molloy's -- Crumlin -- really took a turn for the worse in recent years as far as its beer selection goes. Do let me know if you see the Boston Ale or Winter Lager sold singly anywhere. I've still not seen them outside Redmond's.

The Black Lager is indeed lovely, but I reckon it goes grand without any food accompaniment.

    Is the blacklager a Schwarzbier?

And would it be comparable with this, Monteith's Black?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,869 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

I suppose, though it's thicker and more caramelly than any German ones I've had. If you watered-down Montieth's Black you'd be close.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    OK, thanks.

    Have you had Monteith's Black?

    Where did you get it?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,869 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

I have. The Monteith's tasting room in Greymouth.

    :)

I thought you'd had it in Ireland. :(

    Dammit, why don't they export.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,869 Mod ✭✭✭✭BeerNut

They do, but only the dullest-looking beer they make.

Picked up a 6 pack of Samuel Adams in Dunnes Stores (of all places) this evening.
