If you look at the NCT yellow round sticker on the rear window the sticker is on the right hand side of the car, as its a left hand drive.

All RHD taxi's have these stikers on the left hand side of the car.

I'll post a pic of this if i can find one.

Hardly conclusive evidence now is it!

Pointless putting up that pic in the first place imo!

Its like me saying I seen a Veyron yesterday and posting up a pic of a DublinBus and saying .. "eh yeah it was just behind the bus - why would i bother posting up this pic if it wasn't" LOL

Also, was in a lovely Lexus LS 4.0 V8 Taxi on friday night - Absolutely beautifull car ... taxi man told me he was averaging 15mpg

The thread is about unsuitable taxis. I posted a pic (without revealing taxi number or registration) of an actual left hooker taxi which I think is unsuitable. How is that pointless? I would have thought it was more interesting than merely just saying I saw one.

Ah you see you've just been associating with them lieing, coniving taxi drivers and supporting their assertions about LHD taxis being dangerous, when we all know that there aint no such beasts because we aint never seen one, and the taxi drivers would say that anyway because they wouldn't give a damn if we all got out of taxis into free flowing traffic from the wrong door etc. etc. etc.[TIC Off]

Saw a filthy 94 Ford Escort with French-style yellow headlights on it in Sallins there yesterday with hackney plates on it. Not really unsuitable per se, but not something I'd want to get in to...

I've got a 1994 Carina E that's passed the NCT and is on the road.

I'll have to get an upgrade next year once the 8-year rule comes in to force.

The due date for existing SPSV holders is 2012.

There are some cars on Irish roads which are questionable as taxis. I have seen a Daewoo Matiz or something similar and also another small hatchback, which I would have thought to be below standards. However, I think anything such as a Ford Focus, Volkswagen Bora and Skoda Octavia are perfectly acceptable. Oh, the off-roader type vehicle is also questionable, for (i) accesibility for old or physically challenged peoples and (ii) for their basic unsuitability for road use, that is to say they are prone to rolling. As for using luxury cars like Audis, Mercedes and BMWs, well that is down to driver/owner choice.

as regards the xsara picasso, maybe if i saw the whole number plate i could tell if its left hand drive, ie very high digits, should be around 83000 +.

the japanese taxi in the picture is a Toyota Crown Comfort that is one of the standard taxis built for the JDM. Others include the Nissan Cedric and Crew and they dont bear any resemblance to the Camry ZV which isnt used as a taxi over there.

Yep, that's the one I saw that was a LHD. I don't see what all the fuss is about to be honest.

Have you never noticed that most sane passengers in a taxi scoot over to the kerbside door to get out, trouble is that there's a driver/gear lever etc. in the way of the front seat passenger, so he has to get out into traffic

Do you not believe me? What other reason would I have for taking a picture of an otherwise mundane Citroen?

(Unfortunately, I foolishly edited the pic without making a copy so I don't have an unedited pic! :o)

    In Galway I've seen:

A 97 Fiat Marea (Working out of "Galways Premier Taxi Company" Big O)
    A 98 Ford Escort
    Numerous 94/95 Corolla's
    A Merc ML270
    Hyundai Tucson

A year or two ago there was a 01 Range Rover doing the rounds.

    Nicest I've seen has been a couple of S 320's !!
