Advice on purchase/ cycle group?

it's many years (>15!) since I had a lightweight bike, but I have recently moved to Kilternan area and it seems a shame not to get a bit fit and get back on a bike. Any recommendations as to where to look and for what(About 5'11",13 1/2 stone) . Budget is not a problem, but I don't want to waste €€, and super technology may be wasted on me. I see this as a Saturday/ Sunday morning road bike only. (Maybe €1,000 to €1,500?)

Separate question I see a fair few cyclists around at weekends, some a bit grey like me, is there a local cycling club / group for oldies. A bit of motivation might be good.

I presume you are talking about a road bike, I think a good entry level bike for the roads is the 2007 Trek 1500, wheelworx are reducing their price since last years model but they are great, link below

the price is good for the very good parts you get on the bike.

If you want a 2008 model, the Trek 1.7 is good but a few hundred euro more than the Trek 1500 for similar spec. Link below
