Was literally just prescribed this pill today. I was on microlite for the past..oh Id say about a year now, but my blood pressure was off the charts. Had to wear a 24 hour blood pressure monitor and everything, and Im only 20! =(

Starting Cerazette tommorow, shall keep ya's posted on how it goes!

Hey Splinkk et al! How are you getting on with Cerazette? I just started it a week ago (switched from Yasmin) and subsequently read all the terrible reviews on the internet! Far worse than any other pill reviews. How is it working out for you? Thanks!

    Hi,

I've been on Mercilon for the last 4 years and my doctor has changed me to Cerazette today due to high blood pressure.

I am a bit concerned due to the reviews I have been reading on the net. I am just wondering how you guys are getting on with Cerazette?

    Thanks.

Hi Vickser, I started this thread and have been on Cerazette for about 9 months now (second time around). I've no problems with this pill at all, both this time and the first time I started on it. As I stated in an earlier post I had some spotting every 2 weeks for about 2 months but since then I've had no periods and mood + weight etc. is the same as before :).

It's really difficult to recommend a contraceptive pill to others as everybody's body reacts differently. I've had no problems with Cerazette and anybody I know that's on it haven't had any problems either. But as you see from other reviews there are people who can't get on with it at all.

I was put on Noriday when I moved back to Ireland 3 years ago and absolutely hated the fact that you had to take it at the exact same time every day! Each month I was in bits hoping I wasn't pregnant... Cerazette has a 12 hour window which I think is great. My choices in the pill are severely limited though due to my family's medical history :( so you might have more to choose from!

Let us know how you get on!

I was put on Cezarrette here in the UK three months ago, after having seriously bad migranes on Yasminelle. So far so good, just have had breakthrough bleeding everyday since I started which is a pain but part of the process of adjusting i guess.

    Thanks Mamabear and LadyMayBelle.

Starting first pack today so I'll let you know how it goes! Fingers crossed everything will go ok!

Been prescribed this one myself, I'm in Cork, is it widely available in pharmacies or whats the story?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13 Mamabear

lilmissprincess: I've had no trouble finding it in several pharmacies in Wexford town so can't imagine it would be hard to get in Cork.

  • I'm having a terrible, terrible time on it. Gave me acne, made my hair fall out more than usual, mood swings, no sex drive and worst of all, on and off bleeding. It's been 3 months and all this is still going on. I was on it for most of 2009 and had only the hair issue, it was otherwise perfect. I don't know what's different now, but it's a nightmare. I'd never have gone back on it if I'd known this would all happen.

Well I'm a month in. It's always hard to know what's a side effect and what isn't. I have been incredibly low and teary, but there are a few other things going on which might explain that. No weight gain (I have never put on weight on any previous pills either) , bizarrely a rash on the backs of my legs which is fading though. But I never get skin rashes or spots so it must be the cerazette. And a much lower sex drive which is cruelly ironic since that's half the reason for being on it! I was so paranoid after reading all the bad reviews, but my doctor said it would take 3 months for it to settle down or for me to decide it doesn't suit me. I'm kinda hoping that it will settle down so will go on for the next 2 months. I'm also hoping that people tend to post bad reviews before good ones! I can't believe that such a new, highly developed product can't be suitable for a lot of people. I'll keep in touch and let you know what I decide after month 3. I was happy enough with yasmin, but at age 36 and with a history of breast cancer was advised to change. Isn't it a pain what we do in the name of contraception??

Izzy Wizzy that is terrible! What awful side effects. I understand the on and off bleeding, it really is annoying, asI'm onto my fourth month on it now and STILL bleeding daily. No other significant side effects tho. Are you on Cezarette because you can't handle the combined pill?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5 peskypills

Just to let you know I have decided to quit Cerazette. Not sticking it out for the next 2 months. I was told the rashes were down to it. And my other half told me I have been more down in the dumps than he could ever have have imagined. So I trust him to be honest! Can't cry every day... Will stay off it for a couple of months and may have to find something else. So tricky. Good luck to the rest of you guys on it. Don't be afraid to take a break from it if you suspect it's causing problems. You can always go back on it after a while, but personally the only way I can judge what it's doing to me is by stopping it.

Are you bleeding for days on end as well? Yeah, I'm on it cos I got migraines on Yasmin. Wish I'd just stayed off it now. Hilarious really that I went on it so I could have sex, but now I can't because I either have no sex drive or am bleeding all the time!

Nola Lemon Doughnut, I hope you find an alternative that suits you. My sex drive disappeared too....like you say, a cruel irony. I'm not sticking with it.

I just can't decide what to do. I've stuck with it this long, I feel like I might as well try a bit longer, but I also don't want to waste time if it's not going to work. I'm starting a new job soon as well, so I don't want to come off it and have the entire hormone upset all over again (my skin is just getting back to normal now as are my moods). It's so weird, last year I was on Cerazette and it was a dream, sex drive was great and no bleeding at all. This time around it's like a totally different pill. :(

That is indeed strange. I guess your body can react differently at any stage. A bit like food intolerances. Personally, the only way for me to know if it's Cerazette causing my problems is to stop it and take nothing for a few months. Am going to try natural means of contraception for a few months, and then may go back to the pill. I just can't carry on feeling this low, it's awful. I wish you all the best, but if you want to stop it, I wouldn't worry about your hormones being all over the place. It's still better than taking something that doesn't agree with you. Maybe have a chat to you doctor. Good luck with the new job!

I started Cerazette 3 months ago and I haven't had any problems with it so far, as well as no bleeds (which I'm quite happy about!).

I've been on various combined pills before but due to blood pressure decided to go for a POP. I'm delighted. Having depended on the pill for so long I hated being off it for the few months that I was- as well as nightmare periods, horrible moods and dreadful skin, the fear of becoming pregnant whilst taking medication that can harm a baby was getting a bit nerve wracking!

I suppose pills affect everyone differently but I'm delighted that this one has been going so well for me, sorry that it's been a bit of a disaster for others...

    You've met your double

As I say, I'm starting into my fourth month now and have bled everyday of theose four months. Has to come off Yasminelle because of really bad migranes, one that had me in A+E. To be honest, two docs have suggested that if Cezarette doesn't suit me, then I should come off the pill altogether, which scares the bejesus outta me! But I have learnt to manage my headaches now and I get them if I don't eat very regularly, drink water etc, and the migranes are few thanks christ. Soon moving onto my second week of the Cezarette so hope I stop bleeding because it is so very inconvienenient!!

    Hi everyone,

Well I'm a month in and in terms of side effects I haven't had any really. No bleeds which is a plus however I am a bit more short tempered (apparently!!) I tend to fly off the handle a lot quicker these days.

My blood pressure has come down so I'm going to stick with it for another bit. Will have to start counting to ten for the other half's sake!! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,775 ✭✭✭Fittle

I'm glad i found this thread because I was begining to think I was alone with my side affects on that pill!

I'm getting old  and have had all the pre-meno tests etc, but that's not the problem. Periods are lasting longer (14-17days) these days and having tried various pills over the years, with little success, my GP recently told me about the 'wonder' of Cerazette.

I lasted 6 weeks on them.

I can honestly say my mood altered DRAMATICALLY. I was like a lunatic shouting and screaming at my little lad - there was a day when I had to run upstairs and punch a pillow:eek:. My boobs were as tender as after I'd just given birth. Never, ever happened to me in my life before. AND I bled for practically all those 6wks.

I threw this second pack in the bin about 10 days ago - still bleeding but my mood has most definitely improved and I won't be going near that pill again!

I've been on it for maybe 3 years now - after coming off Depo, and a history of occasional migraines it was the only option for me really. The three hour window on the other POPs was one of the main reasons I went for it. No bleeding at all. I did feel quite down on a cyclic basis, but I've started taking vitamin B complex supplements (a male friend with similar cyclic depression was recommended this by his doc) and that seems to be resolved (fingers crossed). I do have nasty hormonal acne on my jawline though. I'll put up it with it for the joy of no periods.

BTW, it costs me €7 a pack from my doctor.

I had been on Cerazette for about 9/10 months, and stopped using it after break up in relationship. After stopping I became a mad, scary, crazy person for a few days before and after my period.
I was insane, I was aware of it put it was like I had no control of the situation. I know I was very upset about relationship break up and other stuff, but the mood swings were so bad they even scared me. I really was wondering if I had developed bi-polar, was flipping from being very depressed to being high as a kite at the speed of light. Also went through periods of being very low, and being in a very black place.
I decided to go back on Cerazette, just to see if it would make things more 'normal' again! Just about a month in, and I think things are a lot better. Have to give it a little while longer to see for sure.
When I started Cerazette for the first time I did have spotting/light bleeding everyday for about 2.5 weeks, was really annoying, but just lasted for a few weeks and once that stopped, no more periods, bliss!!

Poor thing Neadine, that sounds awful!

The pill sure can cause mood swings, especially when you're coming off it! Hormonal imbalances are not nice.

Has anyone experienced migraine on Cerazette? I was precribed it originally because I got them, and I noticed that they stopped for a long time whilst on it.

Now the cluster migraines have returned (for a month, solid ) and the Doc suggested that the pill might be causing it, despite a respite for so long. Really don't want to go off it but might have no choice. Anyone else experience migraines on Cerazette?

Ps I'm going for a cat scan at the end of the month to be sure.

I would be a migraine suffered too Eviledna, but never had any trouble while on Cerazette last time, no problem this time, so far, but it's early days yet.
Best of luck with the scan, hope it is nothing more than Migraine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,096 ✭✭✭LadyMayBelle

Migrane sufferer here too, but found they eased off massively on Cezarette; however, last week I came off Cezarette advised by my doc as I hadn't had a bleed free day in four months, and I'm not talking spotting.

Dreading going through the breakthru process all over again on a new pill :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭Eviledna

Jeepers you poor thing, no break for 4 months, you must have been on iron suppliments and wrecked!

I've had the opposite, TOM has dissappeared, but the migraines persist and are worse. Just really hope that there isn't a hormonal reason!

Are there any decent Endocrinologists in Ireland/the west? Anyone ever been to one to sort out pill problems?

Ive been taking Cerazette since May 2010.
It freaks the crap out of me cos I got periods for a few months then nothing at all since August.
    I have developed acne also.
Im off it now about a week and wont be going back on it. Still havent gotten a period but def not preg as have done a few tests!

    Would recommend against it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,325 ✭✭✭Eviledna

But Shorething, did they not explain to you that irregular bleeding or none at all is the main side effect of Cerazette?

You should have been made aware of that in advance of starting it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭lainey316

nope, no migraines on cerazette for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13 Shore Thing

No! They didnt tell me any of that! I have since gathered that from everything im finding on the internet!!
Does anybody know how long it takes to return to normal cycle after stopping taking it??? I will be freaking out every month buying pregnancy tests until my periods return!
Also, I cant take the combined pill because I have high blood pressure and am getting a kidney removed in NOvember. Have any of you gone on the injection or micro chip?

I am on Cerazette, for the second time! When I stopped taking it my period returned to normal very quickly, had none while taking it. Finished pack and period started when it should have been due the following month, so, a month after being pill free I was back to normal, but I'm sure that differs from person to person.

I have total faith in the lack of periods. But then, I haven't had one for ... oh ... 10 years?

Was previously on the injection (Depoprovera) for 7 years, but had to come off it as I had a dubious Dexa (bone density scan) - the injection has a risk of osteopenia. Had no periods on it though, if you are freaking out about that you won't have them on depo either. Some people put on weight, esp around the ass. I know one person who got the implant, she really bloated - not so much fat, as puffy, a bit like steroids.

Good god they should have told you that, you must have been so worried you poor thing! It can take anything from 2 months to 6 months to get your cycle back to normal, but try to relax, sometimes stress can make it disappear on it's own.

Sorry to hear you have to have the kidney removed, I'm sure your docs might guide you to stay off the hormones until your op is over.

I found I was bleeding heavily when I went on the first and had some cramps, but then they eased off and the bleeding eased a little.

In a strange way, I feel almost 'lighter' not being on the pill. I know it's not ideal and I def want to back on to be covered, but I feel better off than on.

Was at the doctor on thursday, got moved from yasminelle to cerazette cause ive recently developed really bad migraines and have gained alot of weight since starting it. Was told by my doctor that the weight should slowly go down with this and of course migraines should go away. Ive never had any other problems with yasminelle or microlite (was on it before yasmin) but i have to admit after reading this thread im not looking forward to starting cerazette once my yasmin pack is done. All the bleeding would really have me freaked, id stop the pill but the fear of babies and bad periods again is enough to keep me on. surely as someone said above that its always the bad reviews that come through more so then the good? :o

    Hiya,

I started this thread and I haven't had a problem with Cerazette and neither has anybody else I know that takes it. My first time on cerazette was completely event free, had no periods at all which was brilliant. Second time I had some spotting for a few months but it's settled down and I've no bleeding at all now. Honestly, it's so hard to advise as everybody reacts differently. You really need to give it a go yourself and see how you get on. I have 4 friends that are on Cerazette (not living in Ireland) and they are all happy with it but obviously (judging by this thread) there are people who have suffered from side effects so it's really YMMV.

I've noticed recently the availability of Cerazette is scarce. There is another thread on this subject: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056123976

I've been ringing around to try and source a pharmacy that has at least one pack. No joy.

I've been on Cerazette before it was licensed to pharmacies(about 3 years now). I first got my prescription from The Well Woman Centre in Dublin. I called them and they have it in stock. They can't use a GP's prescription to dispense it. They can only give it to you if you see their doctor.

Ok, so there is a Doctor's visit cost and then the cost of the prescription. At this stage and how little stocks are available I have no choice. They will (hopefully) give me two months supply, fingers crossed the company's licensing will be resolved when the amalgamation is complete by the time I need it again.

I really don't want to go on another pill just to "tide me over". The thoughts of the hormonal changes, the crying, mood swings, bloatedness grates me and I really don't want (and neither does my other half) to go through with that.

Some pharmacies told me they received a letter from the supply company to say they won't have a shipment until the end of January, possbily early February. I'm not one to submit any scare tactics, I'm just telling it how it is right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭lainey316

Plenty I go to the Albany Clinic in D2 and always get three months supply, can get six if I want. Perhaps if you give them a call they may have more stock than Well Woman?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭Plenty

Thanks Lainey316. I have an appointment with the Well Woman Clinic and they assured me they have some in stock...didn't say how much in stock but they have it.

I'll keep in mind the Albany Clinic. I have heard of them. I usually get 3 months dispensed at the pharmacy, so I was surprised that no pharmacy in south Dublin, North Wicklow have ANY in stock as October was the last time I got my batch.

My first impression of the Albany Clinic (and I could be wrong here) is they follow the same procedure as the Well Woman Clinic. You HAVE to see one of their doctors so they can prescribe and then dispense. I won't rule them out. God no!! thanks for telling me about them

Potentially yes, my GP is there so that works for me in any case, but they may have more stock - they had plenty early December when I picked up my last lot anyway. If I'd known there was a problem coming I'd have taken 6 packs instead of 3!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭Plenty

Well if there is a silver lining for other women who are frantic to find Cerazette, you're the woman to deliver it :D

You're covered until February at least. I'm just hopeful all will be resolved with the supply company. Apparently they are amalgamating with another company and there are issues with licensing...or something along those lines, hence the delay.

    Thanks again Lainey316

I am on Cerazette and don't get a period. When I initially started I did have spotting for a number of weeks, but this did settle down.
From reading other posts on here it seems like a lot of people tend to have a lot of spotting, over an extended time, when the initially start taking it. But for me it settled, but probably took a few weeks.

I echo what Neadine said. I was spotting for a 2-3 days a month when I first started taking it, then there has been nothing at all and it remains that way.
