I'm starting a thread on favourite pubs on the Leitrim forum. Sligo forum has enough going on without giving it Leitrim's cut as well:(

Your welcome to it! Leitrim needs all the attractions it can get!:p

We'll find ya! Eventually you'll get bored and come back!
    YOU'LL ALL BE BACK!!!
    Muhawaw!

And attractions it has aplenty. But enough about us! (eh Tulipandthistle?)
We are easily found. We will just keep the fire on and a hot toddy ready. Ye'll eventually get a bus out to Stanfords. ;):D

I really enjoyed The Strand sometime just before Christmas, great band was playing.

Also, The Thatch out in Balisodare is an excellent pub.

Definetly Gurns for me, like a second home.
Was drinking in that place since I was a sprog.
    I love the place.

Decent pubs in Sligo are pretty thin on the ground. I've lived in town for over 2 years now and I still haven't found one that I would consider my 'local'. I sometimes use McHugh's on a Saturday afternoon to watch football or rugby upstairs 'cos there's always seats available (which says a lot really, doesn't it?) and the staff are generally friendly, but can't stand the place for a night out. The music in that gaff is awful cheese-muck.
Shoots is good if you want decent music but no good if you want to sit down.
Connolly's for a decent pint and also a good place for watching the footie and racing if that's your bag.
Being a QPR fan I feel I must give The Harp Tavern a mention as on the rare occasion they've been on the box, the staff in there have been all too happy to stick the game on at least one telly for me (after several other pubs refused to). Was also given a free Brandy & Port by the girl behind the jump who took pity on me one sick Sunday morning even though she didn't know me from Adam!
Used to go to The Left Bank when it was open. Great music despite the fact that it was a filthy dive with stinking bogs and a counter that was dirty no matter how often (or how little) it was wiped.

The strand wins hands down, best pub in the county if not the country. Friendly staff and owners, great pints, live music, never any hassle, good food great location, turf fire...dont get better than that.

Yeah, decent boozer alright and food is good and reasonably priced too. Few too many D4-surfer-types for my liking though...

    The Countess is gone.
Bella Vista Pizza is there now.

I have to say i've always thought the staff in the Strand to be quite helpful and sound.

What do you mean by "do whatever they want"?

I don't see that post flying here tbh, it'd probably be best to edit it.

Langs in Grange for good food and decent beer.
    Mickeys for oddballs.

Harrisons in Cliffoney keep the riff-raff out.

the "irish house" on o'connell st- where town and county merge!:p
(think it may be the longest pub in town also)

I will say The Ship, purely because it has a juke box.
But McHughes and The Belfry are the best of course.
Also the Trades used to be cool!!!!

    my bad!
how bout "killgallens" on the mall?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,647 ✭✭✭✭El Weirdo

The fact that a pub has a jukebox would place it well down my list. Nothing worse than goin into a pub where some good music is being played and ordering a pint only to find that the good music replaced by some pseudo-republican playing the Wolfe Tones or some child whacking some god-awful chart cheese on. Juke boxes should be banned.

Banned.. FFS - I suppose your one of those people who thought Hitler was just misunderstood! Your lucky enough to be living in the free part of Ireland, maybe somewhere with a fascist regime would be more to your taste...

Cripes. Imagine he said "jukeboxes should be burned"!
