Looks are subjective so expect alot of different answers.

My choice would be the Alfa Romeo 159.

i dont know if these count as sport saloons but as ordinary saloons i would say
    1st new citoen c5
    2nd peugeot 407.
i think french cars always look the best others like toyotas and nissans are just bland

We know what saloon is, but for the purposes of the argument you'd better define "sports".

EDIT: you'd also better define "reasonably"..

The SAAB 9-3 ..best looking saloon out there in my opinion - plus SAAB make nice alloys for a bit of bling

Thats an appropriate post bcos that car is officially known from saab as the 93 sport saloon.Good lucks alright but it really is just a rebodied vectra(or caddilac bls for that matter). The 93's predessescor was a better car IMO, more saab-ish i think and that 2.0 lpt was a great engine

The 93 was the first truly modern SAAB in my eyes.

The old one and the modern 95 look horribly outdated. The 9-X prototype is a fantastic looking car. Sadly hardly any of its styling will reach the actual cars I fear.

I'm beginning to think you designed and built these cars... by hand!

Define sports saloon. Are you talking Evo and Impreza territory? If so, then the Evo X. If you're just talking saloon that is "sporty" then I'm pre-empting the arrival of the 159 GTA! :D

I have to say it has to be the volvo s40 2.0 d se sport, drove one a couple of months ago, what a motor, i had to have one so i invested in one from the uk a few weeks ago. Best move i ever made, so far, unless something goes drastically wrong

S40 or 9-3. Sweden all the way baby :D

    S40?!?

Lovely design cues and the S60 looks great IMO but the S40 is ruined by the proportions - too narrow/tall looking. Seriously I know looks are subjective but anyone who thinks the S40 is good-looking hasn't really looked at it critically.

A shame 'cos if it was just a little wider-looking it would be a great looking car...

IMO - Alfa 159, Mazda 6, new C5 - all need the right colour/spec combos (i.e. biggish wheels:)).
The new A4 is a disappointment I think but have only seen in pics and showroom so far.
New Accord a dreadful disappointment after tasty concept shots - they misssed a huge opportunity...

Of course if you strech the 'reasonably priced' criteria a bit the new Jag XF is gorgeous. May look a bit Lexus-like and watered down from concept but still the dogs-b011ix...

I think it has to be an Alfa 159. Even though I'm a BMW man normally.

EDIT: Put in GTA or whatever "sporty" version of this saloon is the most "sporty"

Has anyone actually mentioned a "sports saloon" yet? All I see are normal saloon names cropping up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

That's because no-one has defined a sports saloon yet.
If you google it a 9-3 and a Megane pop up.

How about >1.8L petrol and 0-100kmh <10secs unmodified?

    Civic Saloon Type R

Bit of a trend there :) Personally prefer the Accord Type R for its more subtle look

I was looking for something classy looking, up to E20,000
as I will have a 06 corsa trade in
I will need space for kids in back though,
    any suggestions?

Not all saloons, and I assumed you wanted something newer and bigger than your corsa:

You can't even say the S40 is a sports car, cause it's no where near anywhere sporty. It's a saloon, not the worst looking and not the best looking.
    @daffordx - Now you're talking!
