can any one tell me what the story with this is?

ive been told that i might need one for the next rally...

we use bucket seats... 6 point seat belts.. roll cages.. brakes that have to be heated up... modified engines...

so can anyone tell me what we would have to do pass?

I think they'll test it like any other car up to a certain extent.I asked a tester in Blarney if they'd have any problem testing a mk1 escort, he said no that "so long as everything is safe it should be fine".Not sure about emissions/noise levels on more modern rally cars though.Make sure it has a chassis number stamped into the body for NCT,as there are many re-shells around:)

I haven't heard anything new about rally cars needing NCT's. It sounds like an urban myth to me, who told you this?

next they'll be asking us to tax them...

I'm presuming you're talking about a car with an RIAC logbook etc etc.

i think you mean scrutineering which is an inspection done on all cars entered in a rally to ensure safety and compliance with the rally rules. it is sometimes done in NCT centres but only because the guys in the centres are rally fans and get special permission from NCT headquarters to do so.

As far as I know Rallycars do not need a NCT,They have their own logbook and are scrutinised before every event...Engines have been known to have been stripped down at post event scrutiny to check displacement etc..This is carried out by MSI...
Still I'd like to see how'd they would get on with a Cougar or a Pilbeam :D

Your safer in a rallycar at full tilt than on the open roads these days...

You'll find loads more info at Rally forums.com
    best of luck

Surely then you must have tax, insurance and NCT plus driving license or am I missing something?

Rally cars must be road legal. So unless it is exempt by being too old (or too new) or it will need an NCT.

You may have to switch to rallycross!

Incorrect - scrutineering under MSI is solely for the event held on closed roads - intervening road sections are subject to the Road Traffic Act, and you have to have an NCT.

Look at it this way - if you're Rally car won't pass an NCT, it has no place being in a rally in the first place. Secondly, if you're car fails an NCT, but passed scrutineering, the scrutineer needs to be fired..........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Dont know anything about rally cars and the rules but no rally car can pass a nct and scrutiny as it has to have a rally spec bucket seat and the nct requires you to have adjustable back on your seat. A full roll cage would also present problems for an nct as would an internal petrol tank, emmissions etc etc

C'mon, if a rally car fails an NCT because the indicators aren't 'orange' enough it's not allowed to compete?
    Beyond belief...
