I intend to build myself one of these in the next couple of months, as effective as it would be with our weather, it would still be good fun and interesting to see if this can actually pump out the 750 watts of power promised in the article.

Interesting stuff. I had a poke around on youtube and found a load of videos demonstrating these beasts.

Can anyone explain what's going on in this video? It's a sort of "budget", highly portable solar furnace but it seems like the operation differs to that of the Fresnel lens type.

There is something like ~1000 watts per sqare meter of solar power that exists at the equator at miday and just before sun sets or sun rise very little power like 50 watts maybe

We are higher latitude so more like ~300 watts miday and sod all at sunset sunrise

That prism thing is nearly two meters sqare

They get 750 watts after concentrating it probably from power of 800 watts if it is say southern USA so they lose half the power of the 1600 watts and thats miday so mid morning or mid afternoon they will get a lot less

For us in Ireland to get 750 watts from a panel like that we would need probably a 4 square meter or more panel which could cost a whack lot more

So economicaly the costs in Ireland may not make it worthwhile especially the 50% of the days the sun is blocked with clouds

Possibily with Building a humungiusly large one and boil up some suitable molten metal like molten soduim and store the heat for the sunless days that might work in the summer time

Her we got buckets of wind which can produce 750 watts from wind mill more easily

Here is a few link for a one mile high tower to trap solar power in desert regions that would power a city never mind one stove
