    Hi there.
Just wondering can anyone tell me what Castlebar is like for shopping? Maybe list a few of the good shops that it has?
    Thanks.

Haven't been for a while but from what I remember the big names:

    Dunnes Stores
    Pennys
    Tesco
    Heatons
    Shaws
    Awear
    Sasha
    JackJones
    Aldi
    Supervalu
    Elverys
    Next
    Homebase
    Harvey Norman
Woodies and a lot of other hardware and building suppliers.

    Boots in Westport.

and there's mcloughlins bookshop, and Argos.

Link Road, near the TF royal theatre is now really the "shopping centre" of castlebar. if you need parking, there's underground parking beside NEXT. If you need to stay overnight,Days Hotel is very close to Link Road. hear it's a nice hotel but i'm not entirely sure of prices.

One shop that hasn't been mentioned is Lidl. They're building it as we speak - it should be up and running in the next few months.

    Gotta love the competition :)

Don't EVER buy furniture from Argos, it's the poorest of poor quality.

    Ikea ftw.

I could say a four letter word beginning with 's', ending with 't' that describes argos quality. Ikea (as oscarBravo said) is much better than argos, or other furniture stores.

Sasha's gone, recession and all. Good riddance too, I say.

There are nice independent boutiques around too.

Was downtown just there and Swamp is now where Sasha used to be, wasnt in for a look but they normally have nice clothes in the Galway one. Tally Weijl on Linenhall St. (over faddens) is good too.

How about crafts shops? Or possibly shops that sell fabrics or haberdashery types of items (wool, buttons, beads, etc.)? Anything like that in Castlebar or very near Castlebar?

In the last week or two, they should of stayed in the old shop, the humbert inn might have been left alone then!
