Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone any idea what kind of an application could be used to draw up sample plans? We've got our plans drawn out ( pen and paper ) for the engineer and would like them to look a bit better. These plans are what we've in mind and what we're submitting to the engineer to edit in whatever way he sees fit.

I drew my plans roughly to scale just using graph paper and included..

1. Floor plans.
2. Side elevations.
3. Front and Rear elevations.

By using the graph paper and drawing all the various elevations to the same scale you should end up with a fairly reasonable attempt at your plans which should give you an indication of how the house might look and how the interior layout will suit or not as the case may be ...

You could try using something like google sketchup which is free, but I don't really think its worth the investment of time. Your engineer should be able to do a much better job of your plans using AutoCAD in a fraction of the time...

Don't just give your engineer a free hand to make changes... Its your house, ensure you understand why he wants to change something..
You'll be the one living there.... have what you want..

Google sketch-up isn't suitable. its strictly for 3d stuff.
suitable programs are any of the CAD packages. These are generally pricey. I'm nost sure if there are any trials available, the main ones are AutoCad, microstation and vectorworks

I really dont see the need for you to have them 'look a bit better'.

Dont forget that you the client, any engineer should be able to put them on CAD.

If u do want to try some trial s/ware have a peep at www.turbocad.com: they offer a 14 day or 30 day trial but be aware that unless you are either gifted or have loads of time such s/ware can be very very frustrating. Even printing out the drawings can be a nightmare.
