Nissan must be giving away these cars for free. I can't believe anyone would actually spend their own money on one of these.

I'm appalled that it features so high in the sales figures! I'm convinced Nissan is either putting a bullet to everyone that turns up at their showroom, or giving away a house for free or something, how that thing sells is a miracle.

I must ring up the hypnotists who will get me to think that thing looks good:eek:!

Passed by Liffey Valley Nissan a few days ago, think they're giving away 1500 worth of extras and finance deals and buy one get one free and basically anything you want as long as you buy one!

I can't under stand those figures either. Its like a rigged election.

This is an old persons car. And not insulting anybody but the age were you remember when cars we're called horse-less carriages!:D

If you could corner that niche you would be doing well. Maybe that is what nissan have done!

Having said that I'd disown my 82yo grandfather if he attempted to buy one.

Maidhc the only reason i pointed this out is because they are the only age group of people who seem to drive them! They must be easy to drive.

Oh and rental companies seem to use them ive seem alot with that yellow 1 sticker in the pack window. Which ever company uses them!

Rental companies use them because they get fleets of them from Nissan very, very cheaply.

Looks like the love child between a Primera and Renault Vel Satis.

LOL, that sums it up perfectly. :D

I think Nissan have lost the plot completely over the last few years. Is it Renault design influence? In the past I always thought they made reasonable looking cars bar the Micra - nothing stunning like (although I do think the 350Z is nice) but certainly as good as their direct competition.

Since (and including) the new Primera, they've come up with some awful looking cars. Do the designers not stand back and look at the designs and prototypes and think: "hmmm I actually think this is pig ugly"? I mean I know car styles are subjective, and each to their own etc., but they have to sell cars to survive. Going on the general concensus here, they aren't going to sell many of them.

The Tiida is nothing short of horrendous. It is absolutely fcuking putrid and makes me feel slightly ill when I see one (which thankfully is hardly ever). Doesn't matter how good a car it is if it looks so bad. It could do time travel and I still wouldn't touch one.

The Koreans are streets ahead of the current batch of Nissans in terms of design which is scary considering how puke most Korean cars were a few years ago.

I can't believe that yolk has sold more then any of the cars mentioned, seriously are people blind?!! I will wait and see if the reliability holds up since there not built in japan now.

i dont know anyone personally who goes to mass everyday but when i do pass the loca church on a weekday , by and large the people i see attending either drive a volkswagon of some sort ( very often an old jetta) or they dont drive at all

knew you would want to know that

The Tiida does look awful but the op is on his second Almera and has been happy with both so he's obviously not a car fan.

If it makes you happy just go ahead and buy it and don't listen to what anyone else says.

I object to the Almera Owner = Not a car fan line.

I spent my own money on a 2 year old Almera 8 months ago willingly, and I consider myself a car fan. At the moment, there's a Mk2 Escort with a 6k euro engine and a AX GT night nav car sitting at home as well. I'm also getting a '75 Granada Coupe soon, and that's going to have a small block Ford V8 (5 litre is what the yanks call small!)

I looked at other cars instead of the Almera, but with the budget, I could only get a 4 year old 1.4 Golf (Jesus that was slow!) or a high milage 3 year old Focus (hated the seats). Also, my family have being buying Nissans for 20 years, and only had one breakdown (crank sensor) and we put 100,000miles mininium on each one (one went to 160K miles, no problem and nothing broke)

That's why I bought an Almera. I know that a Focus could be a fraction quicker on a twisty road, but I've got the Escort and the AX for that!

If nissan is discounting the Tiidas so much this will have to hit the ressale value of them, I know most Japanese cars that are sold here are not built in Japan but how Reliable would the Tiida be when it is being assembled in Mexico like the VW Jetta.

I thought we were getting models from Japan? I found some news article suggesting mainland european countries were getting them from Mexico, but it wouldn't make sense for them to build RHD models down there.

[anorak hat on] I find the easiest way to find out if a car is actually made in Japan is to look for the JIS Mark on the windows. But in this case it would involve willingly looking at a Tiida... :(

Here in Australia, the Tiida is assembled in Thailand. Im not sure, but i think, this is the case in Ireland too???

Nissans sunderland factory has the best quality of any nissan factory and last time I consulted a map , sunderland was a long way from Japan. Most toyotas sold here are'nt made in japan and it does'nt stop them been relabile. There was a thread about french cars hear a week ago and I did'nt here anyone moaning about one of the most popular french cars - the Yaris!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭E92

Actually British built Toyotas have a reputation for being less well put together than Japanese built ones.

The (British built) Auris is doing very badly for reliability, if you don't believe me then try the Toyota Owners Club.(though this has a lot more to do with the massive cutting corners whoops I mean costs programme Toyota are currently embarking on than where it's built. Toyota have decided to do a Merc on quality in a bid to save cash)

Tiida is 100% built in mexico

Proof please. I know they make them for the North American market there, but It just wouldn't make sense to have tooling for RHD manufacturing over there when there's such a small market for RHD Tiidas outside of the Far East (where they're apparently made in Japan, Malaysia and allegedly Thailand too).

They're definately not being built in Sunderland, unlike nearly every other Nissan we've got since the late '80s. Is this possibly a sign that they have no commitment on selling the Tiida in Europe?

Fortunately the first UK-built Corolla (AFAIK) was the 5-door '97-'02 liftback, which was goddamn ugly anyway. Where all the Carina E's built in the UK?
