I have one of the laser crabs in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyaXM8NhBBA Does anyone know how I could make the same sort of thing? It would be really cool at my discos. But it would have to be able to work on mains or very good batteries. Also would need to be automatic in the display so I can set it and forget it.

Not sure if this is the right forum, so mods feel free to move.

Would give maplin a try, they are very good for the gadgets as well as for a wide range of gear for DJing.

Link below for one of these on Maplin's UK site, should be able to get here.

Yes I know all about Maplins my g/f calls it my church! I think I have spent more money/time in there than anywhere in Dublin! But thanks for the suggestion. I was asking about making it move like the one in the video, I have the crab already.

Sorry misread the post. looks like its just running off a couple of small servo motors. The motors could be got easily in maplins i think. One bolted to the bottom of the crab to rotate around the entire crab rig and one rigged on the side of the crab to rotate the laser. These could be wired up with some help.

The random thing is a bit more difficult.

Heres one from ebay! cost a few quid though

    Alrite Spider.

I'm not sure if would be up for buying a ready made, legal one, but the sell them here:

I know they arent cheap, but the effect is 100x that of the maplin one. One word of warning, the law on lasers is going to change very soon. The yellow stickers on the laser mean nothing in terms of safety, and a new requirement is that every laser above a certain power rating will NEED a key to run it.

I know this probably doesnt apply to the maplin laser, but be careful if you upgrade with a new one, you may get caught out

    Best of luck,

    Ken
