Im looking to get my first car soon so looking for advice.. as my knowledge of cars is limited. Have approx €5,000 to spend and looking for something with cheap insurance for first timer if possible i.e engine size of between 1-1.3litres, and post 2000 reg. Would also prefer a saloon/coupe styled car...was looking at fiat Brava but was warned their not the most reliable.
    Any advice very much appreciated

The best car for you would be a 1.3 toyoa corrolla , any reg.... the hatchback is somewhat sporty and tbh.... there a hard enough car to break...

though for that price range a post 2000 reg would be hard.

but then again you'll be driving so looks should be a concern till you can afford a larger insureance range.

    Ford Fiesta 1.25 litre Ghia:

Great little car and they came very well equipped towards the end of that model run. Things like air conditioning, cd player and alloy wheels. 1.25 litre engine is nice peppy too.

never heard the words sporty and toyota corrolla in the same sentence

you should pick up an early model ford focus for that money
compared to a corrolla, there the godamm super bowl

Go older and get a decent car. If you're anyway tall (6ft +) a Ford of the Escort MK2/Fiesta MKIV Generation will be too small, as will an Astra or Corsa with a sunroof fitted. I'd have a Corolla if I were to go back in time or maybe a 1.4 Almera.

+2 for a Fiesta, unless you're tall or need a bigger car for other reasons - they aren't the most spacious in the rear.

First car was a Seat leon, i really enjoyed it kinda sporty looking!?!
If your thinking golf around 00/01 look at the leon instead identicial car less money.

But then got a corrolla, while not sporty if your just starting out you can't go wrong, SLIGHTLY sporty looking 3-dr would be my choice, the 1.4VVTi is a great engine.

Depending on age/experiance i would hold off on a real coupe/ sports car as the insurance could be a crippler!

The only fiat i would buy is a ferrari 430!! Steer really wide!
