Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Second hand van parts availability?

    Hi All,

I'm thinking of buying a second hand (early 1990's) 4 berth camper van. Something I'd like to know beforehand is the availability of cheap second hand parts for certain types of vans that your typical Irish van dismantler would regularly have in stock. I'd imagine parts for something like a Ford Transit would be easy enough to come by. Any other recommendations? Is there any make of van that parts are incredibly difficult to come by? Any tips or past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance for all responses.

Fiat Ducato would be quiet popular in the motorhome world. I think they share the same parts as Puegoet and Citroen too,

The majority of the parts would be the same indeed. There are a few little things that are different like light fittings and that, but most of the part for either one are usually available over the counter at your local Motor Factor or at a dismantling yard like Mullingar Dismantlers.

If you were thinking of a mercedes there is a guy down in Carlow who I have been going to for years who breaks sprinters only, with the exception of a few VW LT's. Has a huge stock of second hand and new parts. He breaks a van a week and sells second hand sprinters. Very realiable and sound to boot. A pre 2000 sprinter gives very little trouble. The last time I was there he had two LWB sprinters that he bought that were half way through conversion to campers. Anyway good luck with your purchase. Personally I wouldn't touch a citroen or peugeot, but thats just me.
