Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Favourite riff/lick of all time...

For me it is 1:55 into Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. He plays a flurry of triplets spanning 2 octaves in the songs main theme that quite literally gives me goosebumps every time I hear it... Which is a lot considering how much I love his work. Only takes 2 seconds, but it is beautiful!

You guys? I'm sure this will be pretty diverse so I'm interested to get your input!!

One of my favourite riff is "I don't know", "Crazy Train" of Ozzy Osbourne by Randy Rhoads. His riff is very melodic, creative and his solo as well.

    Kings of Leon - Ragoo.

    ...to name but a few.

the big riff at the end of sabbath bloody sabbath when the verse below starts

it has to be one of the most original riffs of its time and very prescient of Thrash, Black, Death metal etc era

    Where can you run to
    What more can you do
    No more tomorrow
    Life is killing you
    Dreams turn to nightmares
    Heaven turns to hell
    Burned out confusion
    Nothing more to tell

N.I.B and Iron Man are cool too

    Good post
IMO there's one for every day of the year.and even more i don't know...
i'm into Death's spiritual healing intro.at the moment.. and pull the plug..the intensity of that "end it now" riff.. simple but powerful...
course there's no denying the greats like phantom of the opera, or layla (proper version not the accoustic muck) or wasted years.. or fade to black..trapped under ice..the ultra violence..Black Sabbath (the track)..rosie..and on and on and on........::D

    Open Face Surgery by Cryptopsy

Sunshine of Your Love, not really a huge Clapton fan in general but this riff is just deadly.

Flesh and the Power It Holds by Death - the first riff in this is brilliant.

March of the Fire Ants by Mastodon

Among others. I can never make short favourites lists.

So many come to mind, we surely can't pick just one...
    • The intro to Today by Smashing Pumpkins
    • The intro to Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
    • The chorus of Ghost Love Score by Nightwish
    • The riff from about 2:32 of Descent by Fear Factory

And that's just from the last few songs I played on my computer :D.

10:01 In The Name of God by Dream Theater.

After the big instrumental/solo section. The most ass- kicking riff ever!

The end of Vigil. (Lamb of God)

The end of Blackwater Park. (Opeth)

The intro to The Thing That Should Not Be by Metallica. The intro to that song scared the living s**t outta me the first time I heard it.

    :D

Same here, it chills you to the bone :)

My choice would have to be the intro of Forsaken by Dream Theater.

But realistically there are so many choices.
