    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Us Europeans knew that petrol hybrids wouldn't cut the mustard, but try and explain diesel to a simpleton Hollywood movie star :)

VW Polo Bluemotion tested on Fifth Gear: 47.5mpg

I wouldn't take everything VW say at face value...

Holywood stars preferred car of the moment is actually the BMW Hydrogen7, which does 5.5mpg when running on H2.

My wife's petrol hybrid cuts the mustard quite well, thanks. 70mpg well. And doesn't cause nearly as much lung cancer as a diesel.

(Having said that, it would be cool if VW weren't exaggerating and that Golf did do 83mpg)

Hopefully these figures are more accurate than the Bluemotion claims.

So what's that then, 10 years or more since the first hybrid came along? They dragged it out far longer than I thought they would!
Amazing the way the car industry works when the oil barrons are ruling the world! They could have done that from day one.

Sorry to bring up a thread from all these moons ago which is like a century here on motors, but this has now been cancelled - it would be too dear to make to be comercially viable apparently(which is hardly surprising since diesel is expensive on it's own, then hybrid in a petrol is even dearer so a diesel hybrid would cost a small fortune to make).

As GM's "car guy" Bob Lutz said, "diesel is expensive, (petrol) hybrid is expensive, and diesel hybrid is expensive squared".
