Actually charlie, to add, the best HIP-HOP out there for me is "The Roots" or "J-5"

I ****ing hate hiphop but i can't get enough of J-5 for some reason. Quality Control is one of the best produced albums ever made.

Was supposed to be going to Sweden in August with a mate. But he's just graduated from Templemore and was too late askin for the time off in his station. :(

Yea i'm not the biggest fan, certainly not my favourite genre, but there are some awesome grooves and rhythms in hip hop! I can list very quickly the amount of artiste's I like:

    Eminem
    The Roots
    Jurassic 5
    B.I.G.
    Wu-Tang - specifically Method Man
    Mos Def
    Common
    some old N.W.A
    The first Snoop Dogg album!

after that its more the odd song!

You don't hate hip hop if you like J5. It's like hating dance music because you think it's all that high speed female vocal **** that they play on 2FM.
I get frustrated with how stagnant commercial hip hop is but there is some amazing stuff out there if you look for it:

Aesop Rock, Cannibal Ox, Mos Def, MF DOOM, Jaylib, Madlib, DJ Format, Abdominal, Wu Tang, Immortal Technique, RJD2

Talking of Format, try to dislike this:

Also add Grandmaster Flash into my prev list.

In fairness though, RATM have a lot of hip hop influences (no samples though - "ALL SOUNDS MADE BY GUITAR, BASS, DRUMS AND VOCALS" :)) and you like them! I'm not the biggest fan but I appreciate some good hip hop. I dont like that "big screen TV, rims and b1tches" type of nonsense though, hence why J-5 and The Roots excel for me.

He might not be to everyone's tastes, and some of his rock stuff is fairly vanilla, but Kid Rock's early rap work that he released on History of Rock is class.

When I eventually had time to look them up on Itunes, it turned out I knew their music and I own an album (maybe 2?). Yeah I like them, they aren't special though.

Thought his first album was way over-hyped, I didn't understand all the fuss after buying it, but this tune is cracking:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

Video wont work, but i presume its "So Alive"?

His first album is a masterpiece, as is his second, as is "Love Is Hell Part 2" as is "Cold Roses" as is "Easy Tiger".

Then all his other albums, RockNRoll,Jacksonville City Nights,Demolition,Love Is Hell Part 1,all the Whiskeytown albums, unofficial albums (Sweedish Sessions,48 Hr Sessions,Suicide handbook) and at worst, very good, still with moments of genius on them all.

He is famously prolific with the amount of material he writes, and his body of work for someone so young is truly outstanding.

The guy is a fricking genius. Write songs other people could only dream of. Some of them are so beautiful its otherworldly. they are timeless masterpieces imo.

See this one for an example. Its a song called "Dear John"

It tells a story from the perspective of a widow talking to her deceased husband.

It recounts their life and her life now without him.

The last verse is heartbreakingly beautifuul imo, telling that she knew of her husbands infidelity, but didnt do anything due to the guilt she felt at the loss of their unborn child and she couldnt think of life without him.

I realise i sound like a fag, but i dont care, this is genuinely beautiful.
    Dear John wrote:

I got a house full of walls,
And utility bills, every Monday the company calls
I got a nice bed to sleep on
And a chest of drawers, where I keep those tools of yours

Cause you're always mine to keep when you're gone
Two silvers rings, one's on my finger and the other one's gone
Went underground with you, oh John

    Ten years pass
And I ended up with a house full of cats
But most of them went missing
Through that window you never fixed, the door you never latched
when you were on your way out for the last time...

Cause you are always mine to keep when you're gone
Two silvers rings, one's on my finger and the other one's gone
Went underground with you, oh John

I knew what you were doing
That summer when Candie came around
But I had too much hurt to bother you
When we lost our first child I thought a little pain was overdue,
And I wanted you so bad...

Cause you are always mine to keep when you're gone
Two silvers rings, one's on my finger and the other one's gone
Went underground with you, oh John

    I miss you
    I miss you
    I miss you
    I miss you...

    Oh John......
    Here is the song.

Not a fan of Ryan Adams at all. His latest album went on the mp3 player for about two days and then was promptly removed.
