that Irish version of Galway Girl is quality.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

I hate that song with a venegence. Its fcuking everywhere - even went to Edinburgh for the weekend and some irish hen party slut asked the scottish band if they knew it - then she got up and ****ing sang it.

    Bitch.

Thats a good version of Galway girl ,i feel all home sick now, even though I'm only in England! But il miss seeing gaggles of hen parties slobber all over each other and being painsin the arse singing along to that on a saturday nite in every town in ireland!!

Forget what it was for but think that was recorded with a number of other songs for a charity album as gaelige, forget if it was mundy or Declan O'Rourke (who recored on it too) that openly admitted to not having a clue of what he was singing in irish, even though it was his song. Think it must have been Declan O'Rourke, because Mundy would hardly call Galway Girl his song

Nah - I liked it for about 5 minutes and then realised it is more fodder for groups of silly bitches to scream at when they hear it in pubs/clubs.

    Total drivel.

the people that like the song does not make it drivel.

it was a good song nearly 10 years ago when Earle first did it, just cause its real popular now does not suddenly make it ****.

    i hate that attitude.

    +1

but are you a little touchy this morning Al?

    how did the date go?!

I didn't like it then. I don't like it now.

And I don't hate the song for the people that listen to it. I just happen to hate the song and noted how it appeals to a segment of the public that I find particularly hateful. Its 'cool' to like it all of a sudden and so its huge.

Same as when walk the line came out - all this music had been around for years, suddenly they make a movie and now every young person going has suddenly "liked his music for years". That turned me off Johnny Cash completely because what was once classic music became mainstream and over-played.

The best song in the world is the one nobody knows - as soon as it goes global, its ruined and its ruined by the radio stations who play it again and again and again for its target audience - teenage girls who scream whenever they hear it.

A songs popularity can of course effect its likeability - too much of anything is bad. I bet if I stuck you in a room for a week with mundy on repeat you'd come out hating it too...

surely the best song in the world is the one that most people in the world like? :)

    like this;

    or this?

ah i'm only busting chops ;)

and Kryogen, the date went excellently, she had to pick her cousin up at 9.30 this morning so i'm a little tired, not used to being up that early on a sat, that may explain my grumpiness, also i have to go andsee Boyzone this evening...when in reality i'd prefer to lie on my couch with my hand on my crotch and watch ****e telly.

and by the way, i actually do think that Bryan Adams song is fantastic

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

but how can the fact that some other guys have only just been turned on to someones music make you hate their music?

it doesnt make much sense tbh, the music is still good EDIT: or bad regardless of who likes it!

the music of Johnny Cash, Elvis, Billie Joel and whoever is the same regardless of whether its popular!

gotta go on my own date tonight unfortunatly, a double date :(

my Polish mate (brother from another mother!) was over with his missus this weekend, we all went out last night on the piss, which is fine. have no problems with that! but tonight me and the sort of missus and him and his missus have to go for dinner,

he going back tomorrow like so its a nice gesture and all that. but my missus has never met him or his g/f so im worried about the conversation going dead a little!

good to hear yours went went but jesus getting up that early on a saturday has to be a kick in the nuts!

and we both know you will be singing along to all the old Boyzone songs tonight! ;)

Why I hate it when good music goes popular:

1 million people watch Walk the Line.
1 million people discover Johnny Cash
1 million people like the movie and think "ooh, I like this music, I am now a fan, must go find some"
1 radio station finds out about the 1 million people who suddenly like JC
1 radio radio station decides it wants 1 million more impressionable teenage listeners
1 radio station decides to play Folsom Prison 1 million times
1 long-time johnny cash fan decides its time to move on.

So while I dont hate the music because of who listens to it - I DO blame them for me getting sick of said music because they increase demand for DJs to put it on repeat.

oooh - good one. I did stop listening to the radio - I have CDs in my car and mp3s on my PC at home.

Unfortunately since I frequent public places and work I am sometimes forced to listen to radio. never mind pubs with live music who's bands have all suddenly realised that playing Galway Girl increases their chances with the jail-bait by the bar drinking the smirnoff ice.

Maybe the original is different I dunno - I'm thinking of the Bulmers ad now. Its just too twangy.

Plus it reminds me of my ex cos she hated it too.
