Yep, I totally agree. The ad must be good enough and visible enough to generate a phone call.

When you take the phone call, you have to be careful not to start selling the car over the phone. You need to sell the appointment/viewing.

Only when they've seen the car can you see if they're still interested and actually serious about buying the car.

There's no point in negotiating over the phone, as any agreements made there can be thrown out or renegotiated once the buyer actually gets to view the vehicle.

But your first mission must be to generate the phonecalls, and I don't know if carlist.ie will be visible enough.

Also, I'd take more photos of the exterior of the car - it looks mint and you've really shown it in a good light, but if I were thinking of buying it I'd want to see some more photos.

Putting 3 poorly taken exterior photos will not sell any car in this market. You need to take photos somewhere decent, having them on rocky roads make it look like you drive off road with it. Also you have no interior photos at all, does it have leather, a crappy phone kit, people need to know what the car looks like before they will be arsed looking at it. Your car should be fully cleaned and waxed before taking photos, you should have photos of front, back, sided, boot, engine, interior facing the dash, interior facing the seats, hopefully this will help it sell.

To be honest a 1.4 litre Fiesta is going to be difficult to shift due to the fact that the bigger Focus also comes in 1.4 litre meaning similar running costs. Most people in the market for a Fiesta are looking for the cheaper to tax and insure 1.25 litre.

Also I think it is a little on the expensive side, there are a few similar ones on carzone from dealers asking around the same money. Take into account they will probably knock off around €500 discount for a straight deal with no trade-in and offer some sort of warranty it does make yours look overpriced. Actually I was passing by a garage today and I saw a 07 Fiesta with a sticker price of €7,995. Could probably be bought for around €7300 straight with warranty and that is 3 years younger than yours.

But also as the lads have said more than half the battle is actually getting someone to view the car.

    What garage is that?

    Thanks for the replys.

I didn't realise cbg was so far behind in terms of site traffic. i'll put it on carzone drop the price further and see how that goes. I'll keep you all updated.

As regards photos, I had the maximum 9 photos up on cbg didn't put so many up on carlist as I wasn't sure how many you could put up and also didn't know what sort of traffic it generated.

Ultimately though the car needs to sell. For those of you in the trade, what would you offer for a 1.4 04 fiesta as a trade in value - that's assuming any garage would take a trade in!

I'd want to have it the cheapest on the net, and costing me 1-2k less. Although, that's completely up to what I was selling.

Hi All looking for some advice on how best to sell my car. Second Nipper on the way and looking at geting people carrier. I have only put this on adverts should I try carzone or cbg which is best. I think I've priced it right at the bottom of the market and it really is in excellent nick. Has anyone any sugestions on how to move this on? Is it priced right? Are the photos good enough? Is the ad worded correctly?

Any help would be really appreciated lads

I sold my car during the week after having it advertised for about 6 weeks. Buyer saw it on Carzone.ie

Some tips I can give you are:

In the description list EVERYTHING, even if you think its obvious. A guy rang me just because I mentioned in the advert that I hand washed and waxed the car and it was kept in an underground car park.

Be honest in the advert. If the car needs a service, mention it. If it has a scuffed wheel, mention it. If it has a ding/scratch it, mention it.
If a person comes to view the car and doesn't know about these things they are going to be disappointed and maybe let down.

Of course the obvious is the PICTURES, wash the car, make sure you drive it somewhere nice with good light and take the profile shots but also some close shots of the best parts of the car.

    S.

Just had a quick look there. I would replace the pic of the paperwork with a good one of the front interior... (think Adverts is limited to 6 pics, yeah?). Also, include a good sentence or two describing the interior. Basically, give the entire car as glowing a description as you think it deserves! Looks great, btw.

    @The Block.

Your advert seems spot on, car looks very clean.

The only thing that is stopping that car from selling is the engine. A 2.5 petrol is going to be a hard sale in these time. TBH, if you get an offer in anyway acceptable, take it.

Car looks very well, and best of luck with the sale.

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for my ad:
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Citroen/C5/1.8i-Dyn/200909191953079/advert

On a few weeks now with little interest - although that may be a reflection of the car (08, petrol, big, €20k) rather than the ad!

Looking for a bit of advice on selling my car as well, mainly looking for information on how to spruce up my ad before I put it on carzone as €40 for 4 weeks is a bit of a rip off so want to have it right before I put it up.

Also any other car sites that generate good traffic that I'm missing?

Car is gonna be hard to sell anyway as its an Irish model Integra Type R but I reckon its at a bargain price

anyway heres the adverts link - http://adverts.ie/75215

    any helpful opinions welcome

Well, a better pictures would be a good idea.

But also for me it seems really strange why someone is trying to sell 08 car,

so maybe if you have a good reason for that it could be in the ad as well.

Because now people can start to wonder, maybe it is a scam, or car is financed etc.

The main reason in my opinion is that the days for someone knocking at your door with €20k plus to spend in their pocket are few and far between. They are either unsure of their job security and don't want to make such a large purchase or the banks simply will no longer lend them such a large amount.

Plenty of detail there, only thing I'd suggest is use the 6 available pictures. 3 or 4 decent exterior and 2 or 3 interior shots.

The only thing you are missing there is someone with 20K to collect I know I would if I had it. Its an example of how an ad should be.

:o Sorry, I was looking at the top part where there's just one. I'd use the 6 thumbnail pics at the top also, even if you just add some of the shots there that you have down below. I just scrolled down to the end of the description. Some people might not even read down when they see just the one pic at the top. Mind you, that's probably more likely to be the case with a cheap 1.4 rather than something as specialist as yours.

Keep lowering the price. One or two more shots of the interior.

Hi all. I have been driving a 04 Avensis for past 2 years, and had been thinking of changing for a while. Yesterday, I paid a deposit on a 06 Passat (private sale), and am collecting it on Wednesday. Now my problem is to sell the Avensis. I put it in the buy and sell for 8k and got no phone call! The cheapest one on Carzone with same mileage - 72k mls - is going for €7600 and is a private sale too. So I wasn't over pricing or anything. My question is if I rang around a few local garages in Tipp, and asked them would they buy it from me straight, would they laugh at me? Don't know how it would work. A local garage was giving me €7500 last week for it against a 06 Passat but they wanted €9k more with it...way too dear. Or maybe I should chance advertising on Carzone. Don't want to hold onto it for too long! Any advice appreciated.
P.S. I presume you are not allowed advertise on Boards??

You'll get €4-5k for it, if any dealer will take it from you, which I'd doubt.

If you're not getting any calls, then you're overpriced. Just becuase someone's at the same price point as you guarantees nothing - maybe they're not getting any calls either!

Sell privately, drop your price for quick sale, put your car online, post a copy of your ad here so we can help to improve it.
