    Lads,

I am trying to sell my 2004 RX8 and it's been on the market for a while now with very little interest. I am getting it NCT'd tonight so hopefully I'll be updating the ad tomorrow to say it's passed!

    See link below:

    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/Mazda/RX-8/04D231-BHP/990643/

    Any suggestions welcome.

    Cheers,

    R

Any suggestions people? It's past it's NCT now as well :).

It's €530 I think, must double check it. I'll put that in the ad aswell.

    Hi Rigal,

Have recently puchased an RX-8 myself .. Fantastic cars, however, due to their 'niche' nature they would have quite a limited amount of potential buyers in comparison to say a generic 3 Series coupe or Audi TT

From a buyers perspective, what I was looking for when buying my RX-8:

Low mileage ; First thing I notice about yours, is that mileage is relatively high for an 04 (especially an RX-8) - nothing you can really change but just to give you an insight into buyers mind.

Colour ; Sunlight Silver admitedly would be my least favorite colour in the RX-8.

Also, I noticed you have got an aftermarket exhaust on it .. standard is always better when selling a car as it looks unabused an unmolested - I would say put the standard one back on and sell the aftermarket seperately (I would be interested ;) )

To be honest the price itself is very reasonable but as you know its not a good time to sell right now so maybe lower it (just a little) and see if any offers come in.

    Good luck

I know the mileage is high alright, most of the ones for sale are low mileage so that's definitely an issue. The exhaust is actually the standard exhaust but I just got new chrome surrounds put on to clean it up a bit.

I think you're right re. dropping the price (a bit) although I don't want to be giving it away either.

Just out of interest what colour is yours? If I didn't have silver I would have gone for Stratos Blue. Let me guess - black? :p

Stratos Blue would have been my favorite but that was only avb after 2005 IIRC .. so I went for Titanium Grey :)

Black ? .. nooo, hides too much of the cars design.

    Exhausts look nice!

Remember you dont have to sell it at a lower price, just see if it generates more interest and to gauge whether you could sell it for a lower price if you REALLY needed to. - but I agree, you don't wanna be giving it away either.

Just a bad time now really

Alright lads, I know I know there's not much selling at the moment but I've had mine up for the last 2 months or so now and plenty of hits to the ad but not even 1 call. I've reduced the price every couple of weeks by about 500 each time but I'm pretty much thereabouts at the figure that if I sold it for much less it really wouldn't be worth my while letting it go.

Reason I'm trying to sell it is that its been sitting in the drive for the last 2/3 months. Had had enough of dublin traffic and went out and got a motorbike instead. As a result haven't really used the car since and don't see the point in having it sitting in the drive accumulating tax expense and loan repayments.

Its only really been up on carzone.. cbg for a couple of weeks and buy and sell for 1 week.

Would appreciate any advice/suggestions good/bad that anyone might have?

    Heres a link to it:

your car does seem to be in the right price range for that year mileage, but there are hundreds to choose from and its hard to sell the 5 door over the 3 door GTI IMO, leather seats would help too

its low enough mileage, its just a slow market at the mom, no one is buying because of the VRT changes looming, which will impact on all cars.

  • Registered Users Posts: 223 ✭✭anonymousjunkie

yeah, and I went for the 5-door cause I thought it looked better then the 3-door at the time. Just have to be patient I suppose.

Selling the car lads, need something bigger.

What ye make of this ad??

Is it ok as it is or should I make any changes??

    Thanks in advance...

When people say "genuine reason for selling" it always makes me suspicous!! There's probably never anything wrong with it, but why would you sell a car if you didnt have a genuine reason?

The genuine reason could well be; "this car is a wreck, I need to shift it before it falls apart".

Deffo not saying that's what you're doing tho.

You're asking way too much, it's an 8 year old car... Try €2500 to get €2000

More pictures!, different angles of the car, the backseats, boot, close up of the alloys, and the NCT/Tax discs. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,035 ✭✭✭✭-Chris-

Take waaay more pics - head on, side on, in the boot etc.

    I like the description.

I'd change the model description, when it's in the listing of Clios it doesn't say engine or spec, only "Renault Clio".

I don't agree with the pricing - why would I buy from you when I can buy these cars from dealers for 2/3s the price.

You need to give the car a good polish up. The front wheels look really dirty with brake dust. Also I'd remove the silver wiper yokes. To give yourself the best chance have the car looking it's very best. Also a few more pictues wouldn't go astray.
As others have said, the price is too high.
    Best of luck.

    1. Price, price, price, is too high especially in the current market place.

    2. Outside photo of the car angle not great and there are not enough of them. Wash the car and maybe a polish as grey is a pretty dull colour at the best of times, a photo of a dirty car for sale gives the impression the owner does care very much about it.

    3. Inside photos are ok and the interior looks clean enough. A suggestion though would be to spend a few quid on a set of car mats. Don't have to be expensive or fancy but they can make a positive impression on a potenial buyer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 825 ✭✭✭CtrlSource

It's not too bad tbh. Agree that you need to take shots of a few more angles (including the rear and both sides). Also, don't park it so close to the house - the pics will look better and it won't look so jammed up against a building, as if you're hiding the back end ;)

Some of this has been repeated already and might sound harsh but should be worth the effort and get more interest in your car...

Get rid of "genuine reason for selling", "Just did the NCT, flew through", "Price is well below average. ", "& clean car.. ", these terms make is look like a dodgy car which has something to hide.
Replace the wipers with normal black ones.
    Replace the missing aerial.
Take side on photos and rear of car.
Wash and wax the car properly, it looks like the wheels could do with a clean.
Mention service history if there is one.

wouldnt mind some thoughts on this and whether I'm asking too much for the price, I know mileage is high which I'm wondering is the main sticking point,

Havent had any calls as of yet although I know its a bad time of year to be selling. :o

I'd second all the above. Also put up a few more photos, I know when I was looking online for cars earlier on this year, I pretty much disregarded the ones that only had one or two photos. Take a photo from each angle of the car (front left/right, back left/right) so you can show there's no dents etc.

Main thing that'd be putting me off about the car is the price. You'd need to drop it about a grand. The car might be lovely and clean etc, but at the end of the day it is 8 years old.

I think your pics look good, however it all comes down to price. I can walk into a main VW dealer and get a 07 Golf with less milage than yours for 18k cash, wiht a guarantee & service - so why would I pay 20k privately?

Drop the price & it'll shift - there are over 270 2007 golfs for sale...

Your car looks really fantastic, in the pictures anyway,

but if its not selling then I think you have to drop the price, I was checking that you can get almost similiar cars from Dealers around 18k so you really should try to get below dealer prices to sell,

    Maybe 17k?

    Well, some things,

boring color :) I think that people want something brighter like red etc when they are buing small cars.

    Also price:

    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/Renault/Clio/1.2-NEW/1095073/

you can get similiar car from Dealer, 70k, 2 years of NTC for 2700, your car costs 3500e, 10k more miles, "wrong" color etc, it does not just work out for your car,

Good things about your one is that timing belt is changed, but does your car have a service history?

Does your car have car tax? why you put that price is below average when using compare option you can see right away that its not,

ok your car is in Cork and the another one in Dublin, but if I would need to spend 12 euros for bus and save 800 euros I think it would work out:)

    Hey guys,
    Any advice on this ad?
    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/SEAT/Leon/S/1119085/
Want to take a few pics of the interior, but anything else? Price seems to be average for the leon on carzone.
    Thanks

    TIP:
Take pictures of your car just after you buy it. Then use these when you're selling. People will think, wow looks great for an '03. But they don't realize the pics are four years old.

Have the new prices for Crazone kicked in yet? Is it now €30 / month rather than €30 & it stays till sold?

And while we're at it if anyone has any comments on my ad I'd love to hear them!
