Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is a group of 6 of us heading out in June for 3-4 months. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to look for rentals?

I'd say UBC would be your best bet and stay in the dorms. I went with 4 mates 2 years ago and we found a house but it was in Burnaby (about 15 minutes on the train into Vancouver) so you might get lucky on craigslist but UBC would be a good back-up choice.

Defo UBC and try the frat and sorority houses. They empty out in the summer due to the students going home for summer, so they normally have places free. Go to the UBC web site, find a list of frats, they should all have web sites and try email someone it it enquiring about it.

We're a gang of guys and girls, d'ya reckon frats/sors would have a problem with that?

A bunch of my friends (about 15-20) stayed in the frats back in 2004, but we heard after that the Irish were banned from there (not because of them but another group. Honestly!). You'd be best firing them off an email. If you do manage getting a place there, they're probably going to be on the expensive side of things, and unless you've got a fair bit of money going over, you'd need to have a good job organised quick enough to pay for it.

    They didn't for us.

A story like that goes around every year. But your right its best to give them an email first. Cant imagine they would be on the expensive side as if the don't take in people traveling then the dorms just sit empty for the summer so I thought they would be happy to get an extra cash in.

Went to Vancouver two summers ago, and I get the impression that each year our repuatation gets worse in the UBC area (some real idiots head over from these shores). Having said that, its a class place and afaik the frats still take Irish people.

My friends and I were lucky enough to get a house in UBC, so check out craigslist as having your own gaf is always preferable. Also, the frats aren't cheap as the above poster assumes. Reason being so is that they are tricked out houses. Pool tables, private bars, class sound systems etc. etc. Whilst all that is pretty savage, thee impression I got of the frats is that you'd want to have a lot of patience to live there as you'll be sharing your living space with some real idiots for the summer.

So, ideally, get a gaf in UBC or nearby Point Grey, and then just head up to the frats when there's good parties.

Vancouver is class, would love to be heading back.

I'm fairly sure it's true. I was over there myself that year but stayed in Point Grey (just outside UBC). Some of my mates who stayed in the frats kept in touch with the frat guys and that's what we heard from them. Reliable enough!

The frats they have are newly built (since 2003/4) so they can afford to charge a bit more I suppose.

Just to back up what was said above, use craigslist. A LOT of people in Vancouver use it! We had 4 mattresses we needed to get rid of 2 days before we moved out. Put them up on craigslist at $30 a pop, they were gone by the end of the next day!
