Begging Bye-Laws seem to be doing their job; one of the regular lads at it was seen begging above in Dublin.

Unsure if he gets free travel but would hope not; means he'll have to cover cost of a day or weekly return on public transport before he makes money for his addiction/dealer.

Can you in all seriousness see these types paying for a bus or train fare? I certainly can’t

And as I was coming through Hanover Retail Pk. Mr. SD clearly didn't make sufficient spends in Dublin yesterday as there he was tapping @ Woodies.

That car park's private property but never policed by any security company that I know of; can't recall cars being clamped or ticketed there either.

Yes free travel pass. ADDICTION is seen as a disability in this Country.

In the lefty nanny state we live in, that wouldn’t surprise me.
Meanwhile the poor plonkers paying for it pay 1000s for a yearly pass as they trundle back and forth to Dublin for work

As a centre right on some issues and centre left on others (but never PBP etc. left!) I find that odd.

An addiction is an illness perhaps but not a disability.

It's a kick in the teeth for someone unemployed to see these duckers sitting down coining it in on the streets of Carlow and mobile beggars then being able ride the train for free when Mr. or Mrs. "Ordinary" Unemployed who don't shoot up have to pay €19. Something Day Return to Dublin etc.

Going to Dublin to beg some more and to score some more.

I believe alcoholism is actually classified as a disability here in Ireland.

In a case taken to the Equality Tribunal in 2005, the tribunal ruled that alcoholism was a disability under employment equality legislation (Case DEC-E2005/034 An Employee v A Government Department).

I don't agree with it, but then again there are plenty of laws that I don't agree with.

Not sure if Wetherspoons held their open day earlier in month but would imagine the "New Bar/Food Outlet Carlow Town" (with no name) advertising for staff (Manager/Bar Staff/Commis Chef or Cooks/Cleaner) is them; they're using a PO Box as e-mail.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,861 ✭✭✭Nokia6230i

Carlow has a European Election candidate for the Ireland South constituency > https://www.carlowlive.ie/news/politics/358397/carlow-candidate-selected-to-run-in-european-elections-for-people-before-profit.html

Her announcement on Facebook via a live stream was embarrassing; it peaked at 16 viewers; one would've expected PBP to instruct their members by SMS or e-mail etc. to tune in to bump up the numbers; majority of the time it was going from 2 to 7 viewers.....

Richard Boyd-Barrett is coming to town next Wednesday to officially launch her campaign; I believe they've booked the broom cupboard for this purpose because no extra space will be reqd.

Not quite sure why I couldn't edit this but my bad; the above isn't Spoons.

It's McCormacks new place on Brown St./College St.

Strange this is while they use a PO Box in Nationalist it's his actual e-mail listed in window of establishment.

Are they opening brown street bar again, where the casino is, or is this a new place?

Same venue/location yes; no opening date but you'd imagine they're aiming for Saturday the 16th of March at latest or maybe Valentines Day perhaps?

I actually sort of like A Wallace though her policies are mostly out of line with my beliefs- i do actually admire her for having a few beliefs and sticking by them- it's more than can be said for the likes of Murnane or John McGuinness who are both dreadful public reps and sit on any fence for as long as humanly possible.
A Wallace was actually very good during the 8th Amendment and I have to hand it to her- fearless in her campaigning and did a lot of canvassing around Carlow/KK * I'm in no way connected to her, just my own observations.
I think she'll stir things up in Carlow CoCo which would be no harm at all.

Whatever about other local politicians, I don't think you can say McGuinness sits on the fence, he is one of the most outspoken TDs in the country and would clearly be front bench for FF if he played the same game as the rest of them.

Total fence sitter- loves to run with the hare and hunt with the hunt. No principles bar the next election (like many of them of course).
I remember him spoofing on during the marriage referendum- naturally he was opposed to allowing “other” people have a few more rights as it doesn’t sit with his narrow agenda.
Once he realized he’d completely misjudged the national mood and the local majority, he was on the local radio back peddling and praising some local individual stories. Wants to be seen to be in both camps, he was the same when in FF were in govt, pretending to oppose them then always voting with them in the Dail.
That’s why I admire aspects of Wallace- what you see is what you get and I’m centre right in my voting patterns but socially liberal.

Attended a meeting with Sen. Murnane O'Connor today; I think she still thinks she's a Cllr. from the questions she was asking.

Brevity isn't her strong point; it's more about word count and quantity rather than quality of query.

Meeting went on but without her presence it'd've been over at least half hour earlier.

Any opportunity to speak or ask questions or congratulate somebody on something she took it no matter what relevance it had.

Makes me wonder when speaking times for politicians are totted up annually; the higher the better in theory but in hers absolutely not.

The Murnane one (as my father calls her) can be summed up in the phrase “empty vessels make most noise..”
Seriously clueless lady, not very bright but in this country that’s rarely a barrier to success- she has a cohort of followers , the types that believe welfare Christmas bonuses (for d poor Childers) and free foreva homes are fundamental human rights...! I switch her off whenever she spews over the airwaves

Surely A Wallace is exactly the same in that regard, and worse. When's the last time she earned a living and helped to pay for the services and housing she wants for everyone?

That’s kinda my point - she’s exactly what it says on the tin! The other one is as bad for welfare scrounging but doesn’t get the same stick for it.
I’d imagine never but that’s the far left in this country- you’ve got to take them with a pinch of salt and try pick out the rare positives.

Does nobody remember the last time Wallace ran? She was on Vincent Brown with all the other Carlow/Kilkenny candidates and was shown up as the absolute fool she was.

Her solution to the housing crisis was to take houses off landlords and give them to the homeless. How she expected the landlords to hand over the keys without issue was never answered as she kept repeating the same nonsense when pressed by Vincent. She repeats mindless PBP slogans about the wealthy and how its unfair for the average person, honestly she seems like someone who genuinely thinks every middle class or above person has scammed the system somehow and are walking around with 1000s in their pockets rather than having worked hard to get where they are.

Our local politicians are of such a low level in general its hard to believe someone could stand out as being even more clueless and yet she managed it.

If she gets more than double figures in votes i'll be shocked.

Her launch is next weds 23rd Jan in the Seven Oaks 7.30pm if you’re interested in heading along and supporting her!!!

She launched herself on a Facebook live stream during the week, Thursday I think.

I watched; it peaked at 16 views; generally it was bumping along at 2s, 3s & 4s.

Embarrassing for her; surely PBP would've sent out a group text or e-mail to all their members to tune in to bump up the numbers?

If those figures're anything to go by the broom cupboard in Seven Oaks on Wednesday night will more than suffice!

Fail to understand why they've chosen Ms. Wallace for Europe; she's failed twice in constituency (2015, 2016); only belatedly did she decide to go for local elections; initially it was a run in the next GE only.

For a party who, sometimes in combination with AAA, bum along at the 2% mark in polls they make an awful lot of noise yet their political gains're poor enough across various elections; Europe will be no different.

Europe? Wtf I thought it was the local Council she was going for? Not a snowballs chance of her going to Europe.

How does she fund her full time life of protesting?
She’s a good looking girl it has to be said, that probably clouds my judgement on her!!

Yep; she's now their Ireland South candidate for European Elections.

She's their General Election candidate for the constituency.

She's their LE Candidate for Carlow Town LEA.

It's almost like they've nobody else.

However they do have another PBP member running in Tullow (another person who'll be handed theirs) and another in Kilkenny City (Carlow College Lecturer).

Not sure which PBP TD (don't think they've any Senators) would go for Europe but this selection is rather bizarre.

Alex O'Keeffe is the People Before Profit candidate in Tullow. Never heard of them and no pics or information on their FB page. Not exactly a brilliant promotional strategy.

That's their on R.H.S. with fist raised wearing the black crop top wearing the Trans Rights badge & carrying the sign.

As it happens the lady in yellow to his/her L.H.S. is a Carlow College Lecturer and running for PBP in Kilkenny City next May.

Alexs also feat. here on the PBP site > http://www.pbp.ie/representatives/alex-okeeffe/

Alexs personal profile page which is far more revealing in terms of their attitudes is here > https://www.facebook.com/BLACKVEILMISFIT

Am using "Their" because using "Him" or "Her" may offend......and to be honest I genuinely haven't a bucking clue; am hard pressed to decide looking at them.

As Bowie sang "Not sure if you're a boy or a girl"......

Has Alex a chance? Nope, no.

When they don't get elected will they pull the Transphobia card? Or the PBP "People don't get our Politics" card? Or both?

Is Tullow ready for a Trans candidate? One who has no connection to the LEA? Is Tullow ready for a PBP candidate? No on all three counts.

I see from that PBP page that Alex O'Keeffe hasn't a clue what parish pump politics means.
Tullow has been riddled with neglectful politicians, the town and surrounding areas have been forgotten about as parish pump politics trumps. I think we need to all rise together and fight for an honest politics that deliver.
Noun. parish pump politics (uncountable) (Ireland, derogatory, informal) political activity that is more evidently concerned with addressing the immediate needs of the local electorate than with strategy that might affect the national interest.
Surely if politicians were engaged in parish pump politics they would be looking after their surrounding areas and not neglecting them?

Safe to say that this person won't be getting my vote.

im not into politics myself. Wouldent agree with alot of what PBP are shovelling but one thing i do agree with them on is all the posters around town on derelict houses saying people need to live here. Carlow town needs more people living in it but they wouldent because the town is overrun with traffic.. the air quality in town is terrible

The problem with PBP is that they believe there is a money tree that can fund free everything for everybody.

Yes, changes are needed, but most of the PBP crowd are living in Cloud Cookoo Land.

As heard on this mornings KCLR Live Tullow LEA won't have to worry about being ready for a Trans candidate or a PBP one or both as M/x O'Keeffe is now no longer running.

The PBP Carlow & Kilkenny LE 19 Candidate Launch is on tonight in Seven Oaks @ 7:30pm; me thinks Richard Boyd Barrett who was on KCLR Live this morning in Part One/First Hour and who also was at an IT Carlow SU "Meet the Politicians" event @ 1pm Lunchtime today will be somewhat underwhelmed by attendance; the smallest of the upstairs function rooms (Rossmore suite) is being used.

They shout a lot, make some noise and throw their weight around @ various protests on & off line but they don't gain traction at the polling booths, in the polls etc.

Would love to know their membership numbers locally and nationally but the viewing figures for Wallaces live stream launch as I mentioned in 4043 were fairly embarrassing; is this a sign of how she's perceived locally, regionally and nationally?
