Karting in Strawhall is back open, by the looks of it.

Anyone know if Halfords is reopening or are they done in Carlow?

Looks like it was back open today from what I could see as I was driving past.

Any idea when Costa is reopening?

Anyone know what happened with the Carlow Live news website it seems to have stopped that was a great little resource to have for the area.

Reason Carlow Live has ceased is the editor has moved on to same position with Tipperary Star; Iconic Newspapers Group may've decided to wrap it up 2 months short of its 1st/2nd Birthday sadly instead of replacing with a local hack or even intern (preferably paid!) from the county; thinking of a graduate from the college who's done their Media & PR course (think they might have another similar course in TV Production with Media too?).

    Yea I heard that.

    http://www.eplanning.ie/LaoisCC/AppFileRefDetails/20285/0

The planning is to merge unit 7 & 8 in to one unit.
The Ivy Rooms is unit 8, so something doesn't add up.

So what is happening is the Ivy Rooms is moving upstairs and JYSK are moving in downstairs.

Just me or has the "junkie scum" population in Carlow gotten larger? Or just louder and with the good weather & more people being off for past three months, more noticeable?

Passed by yet another incident in Penny Lane this evening where a Gda. car was present and I recognised a number of the "characters" involved who were involved/being spoken to/hanging round; saw them later at entrance to Penny Lane in a group & again down College St. where I was in La Boheme.

They add nothing to the town and it's the people who fall for their b/s and give them money I feel sorry for; they don't want to get clean, they just want more gear, tablets etc.

While I'm liberal enough in terms of recognising addiction in any form (porn, gambling etc.) as a healthcare issue (physical or mental) the right winger in me despises those concerned who don't want to try get better......

    Any other instances I'm missing?

With town centre being so small they tend to congregate in different areas quicker I guess so may be more prevalent as a result of that too.

I actually thought the complete opposite. I've not seen them hanging around Aldi and Dealz as much any more. There was one young lad in particular who was always outside Centra,Shamrock Plaza and Aldi but I haven't seen him in months.

Yeah heard it. The dogs are going mad since barking at the sky. They are gun dogs so it wasn't fireworks

Get a hunch it might be related (heard the big bang myself; thought it was more than one also & initially thought a firework) but a helicopter (Gda. one presumably) has just gone towards the river from Tullow St. side.

It's crazy that the main street of the town didn't have the footfall for a major sports retailer. Carlow needs to wake up.

That Elvery's was an awful shop, badly stocked, dark, dreary and unwelcoming. I'm not surprised it closed.

Seemingly, Elverys are moving up to the Fairgreen, so another vacant unit on Tullow Street.

What shocks me is that there isn't one antiques shop in Carlow town. There are at least three in Portlaoise. Pity.

I'm surprised Sports Direct are allowing that to happen and have competition with them in the same location.

JD won't be too happy either.

If nothing in the shop is selling, stock won't be bought for it. I've had conversations with other managers who say the footfall just isn't there on Tullow St. We need to change this, cause the town isn't worth coming into anymore.

Soup Kitchen's back open tomorrow; maximum at any one time is 10; cue the queues from 12:30 so; it's a very transient place; people go in, sit down (table service I think now or else the service area is boxed off with a shield) & are generally in + out within 15-30 minutes; may well be some disgruntled customers come 2:30pm who fail to gain admission.....

Also for anyone interested in a buy to let there's an apartment for sale in Academy Ct. on Montgomery St. & it's not on DAFT; 2 Bed/room/ed Duplex Apt. & would command a rent of €800 but is only at €650 with current tenants; anyone interested PM me & I'll give you vendors details & more spec on it + advice etc.

Also D&Gs Takeaway has been sold according to Milanos staff; noticed it shut last couple of days.

    Yes it is.

Cheers I went for a drive up and a walk around and it was lovely to be put about up there. They seem to be tarmacking some of the walkways up there now. I know the timber walkways are crumbling but is tarmac the answer.

I did and Shaws both had really soft pillows not a good firm support one.

I'm up in Dublin on Saturday and I have a look when up there.
