Not sure when it's open. But I have collected stuff from the kilkenny shop last week. If you know anyone going that way.

Anyone know what the story is here? The Guards were stationed outside the house for over 24 hours with the area tapered off.

I passed that yesterday as it was happening while out for a walk there was two women kicking lumps out of door they had come out of the house beside it as the squad car and van with about 7 or 8 guards turned up seemed like a fight between neighbors. I didn't hang about as both women looked off there heads on drugs and there were lads shouting from inside both houses that were converted into bed sits.

Anyone have a recommendation for someone to run a cable duct underground from my house to the fiber access point/pole outside at the road?

    It's about a 40m run.

I wonder what the mattresses are like out of there. I need a new one. I don't know anywhere in town that has decent quality ones.

JYSK still planning to open in the old Ivy Rooms unit, this summer.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2021/0414/1209847-jysk-criticses-time-it-takes-to-lease-new-irish-stores/

The country manager for UK and Ireland of the Danish home retail brand JYSK has criticised the length of time involved in acquiring space to rent here.

Roni Tuominen claimed the company has found the process "very difficult" since it began operating here.

"In comparison to other European countries, we can issue and sign a lease contract within 2-4 weeks, whereas in Ireland, this is taking up to four months in some cases," he said.

JYSK has been trying to rapidly roll out a retail network here since it launched two years ago and has already opened nine outlets.

It has three more stores due to open this summer in Little Island in Cork, Carlow and Tralee.

But in order to drive its expansion forward, the firm says it needs more retail space, which is proving hard to secure.

"To achieve the volume of stores we want in the Irish market and increase job opportunities in regional areas, we need to secure a steady flow of new locations and that is something we're actively pursuing right now," Mr Tuominen said.

As a result, JYSK is inviting Irish landlords to contact it about retail properties of around 1,300 sq m that may be available across the country that it could lease.

Financial results for JYSK UK and Ireland for the financial year 2019/2020 show total sales reached €41 million, an increase of 74%.

In July of last year, the company announced the merger of JYSK Ireland and JYSK UK to form one organisation.

JYSK was founded in Denmark in 1979 by Lars Larsen and now has operations in 51 countries, with more than 3,000 stores employing 26,500 people.

What about the Braun site for JYSK?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,372 ✭✭✭iwillhtfu

What about the Braun site for JYSK?

Far too big. They work to the argos type shopping in that their stores have limited stock and it's usually click and collect.

That Braun site will eventually be razed. There was an almost identical site in my home town that stood empty for around 20 years and just recently razed for a Lidl distribution centre.

No one is going to pay €6m for that Braun site.

Is that what they have it up for? Little wonder it's still sitting there.

Concerning for the Braun site that under the ownership of Clyde Developments Ltd. it was rezoned from simply Industrial to General Employment and they still couldn't get tenants for it; Amazon & Ikea're the two big ones to come to mind & obviously we'll never know, officially I guess, who, if anyone, expressed even vaguest of interests in either buying it or leasing it in past.

As per this weeks paper they/he didn't want to offer it in different units/break it up as he felt it could be something more and would sell/lease easier I guess?

You're looking at a Pfizer, Amazon, ALDI, LIDL, IKEA type business but they're already here in some cases (Amazon to come if not already opened in, I think, Mulhuddart?) in other locations which, for logistical reasons, were more suitable.

Pfizer, Amazon, Aldi, Lidl and Ikea are all specialist sites. The Braun factory wouldn't suit their needs. So it would have to be razed to the ground before they would begin any development. And in such a case, it would be far cheaper for them to get a green-field site somewhere else.

Regarding it being turned into a big distribution centre, the Company I work for looked at it a few years ago. The site wasn't exactly what they were looking for but another issue that was raised was the population of Carlow. It was too low.........hear me out before you start attacking me. :)

Distribution centres typically have a high turnover of staff mostly due to the low wages and the demanding physical work. Given that our main distribution centre currently has a turnover of somewhere between 5 to 10 people per week, we'd reach a stage in Carlow after a number of years where we could no longer staff the distribution centre.

The one which borders Barrack St. & Staplestown Rd.?

Carpenters secured P.P. for Funeral Home on the site in December 2019 > http://www.eplanning.ie/CarlowCC/AppFileRefDetails/19377/0

lways seems to be a lot of conditions outlined but most're simply box-ticking exercises & standard enough; not onerous but there's a development levy & I hope I'm understanding it wrong and that's it's a 4 Figure amount and not the 6 Figure amount outlined; maybe I'm out of touch on the issue.

For anyone from the Ballon, Tullow and Kildavan areas will be familiar with the amenity at Aghade bridge which has been a popular spot for many generations of locals for swimming, fishing and kayaking. In particular it would have always been a popular spot for teenagers and this has been tarnished by the behavior of one group from outside the area about 3 times over last summer when litter was left and some evidence of drinking and nitrous oxide use. This has lead to the knee-jerk reaction and they have now installed massive spiked fences to eliminate all access to the river at Aghade.
The fencing went up yesterday evening in the dark and they actually bolted the fences to the bridge itself which is a protected structure. Really sad and many locals are frustrated that now nobody can enjoy the amenity and 95% of the well behaved teenagers that used it all summer long for years will now have nothing like it all summer. I used to bring my kids for walks along the banks of the river but will now have to find somewhere else.

The writing has been on the wall for a while now. I went in a few weeks ago and almost no stock and network choices were few. A shame to have another empty building in a prominent area.
