I fancy a pistol for no particular reason.
I don't really want to get into target shooting (wouldn't have the time).
Are there restrictions on what you can buy or why you can buy one?
Is it legal to use one to plink rabbits?
Are there any special requirements for storage or will my standard shotgun safe do?

    All donations gratefully received..........

Sorry you can only own a pistol for target shooting and even then they are really hard to get.

EDIT: Also it's illegal to hunt with a handgun.

Well, at the very, very least you'll have to join a club that practises pistol target shooting, and then there's a whole new kettle of fish with regard to joining a club solely to get a cert and then fecking off.

Well, only .22 rimfire pistols are unrestricted, so as of may you'd have to get a restricted licence for fullbore ones. Nothing illegal as such, but you'll have to demonstrate target shooting enthusiasm to get any pistol.

    No.

That depends entirely on your local superintendent if you want a rimfire pistol or your commissioner if you want a fullbore. A lot of people are being asked for a lot more.

Looks like thats the end of my pistol owning days.
I wouldn't have the time to take up target shooting.
Hard enough to hit the big orange discs with hundreds of pellets:D

You want one for no reason?
    Thats a new one,
There is always the debate as to what counts as a reason, but no reason, baffled

You missed a bit. It was no particular reason, just lots of little reasons -too many to mention. Plinking buunies was one but I just found out you can't do that. :)

    Too many to mention???
There are only a hand full of reasons to own a gun, all equal. Not all will apply to all guns of course, fit for purpose and all.

'Plinking' rabbits with a pistol. What images that conjours up

Any wonder that target shooters get a bad name? Next you'll be 'plinking' road signs with your shotgun
