''Democratic party leaders in the US state of Florida are proposing a repeat presidential primary on 3 June.''

Interesting to note that Clinton is the one that wanted this so Florida's delegates would be reinstated. She won the original primary easily but I think she could be taking a hell of a gamble IMO because if Obama manages to built up any sort of momentum in the primaries ahead of the proporsed re run of Florida he could end up overturning the result of the original primary in Florida in February.

The 'contentious issue' is one which is no small problem. The DNC, reasonably enough, are saying "We're not going to pay for it, are you mad? You went and screwed it up when we told you not to"

The Florida DP hasn't got the millions to spare.

Primaries in Florida are usually paid for by the State, but the (Republican) Governor sees no reason that Florida's taxpayers, D, R and I should be forced to foot the bill for the re-run which resulted from the local Democratic party screwing up.

There was the option mooted of a mail-in ballot, which is cheaper, but is illegal under Florida law. They could have a private company do the count, which is legal, but there is no way of checking the voter rolls as Florida law doesn't permit the voter rolls to be released to private companies. As it is, the election they are proposing is one which would have only some 50 regional centres to vote at, as opposed to the 2,000 polling stations usually found in elections.

The Democrats utterly screwed the pooch.

    NTM
