Firewall issue

Maybe the wrong forum but firewalls seem to be discussed here so..

This machine used to have Norton Internet Security on it. I removed it, ran the removal tools etc but I've had some weird issues with it since then. I'm using Avast! AV with no issues so that side of it is fine but with firewalls odd things happen.

If I install Comodo, initially there's a big slowdown on boot up but I'd get over that. The big problem is that after a few days of it being installed the two administrator accounts on this machine lose all permissions for accessing the hard drives and immediately after log on I get error after error as programs try to boot up etc. In Safe Mode this doesn't happen and I can resolve the issue by uninstalling Comodo when in Safe Mode.

Does anyone have any ideas of what could cause this and whether it could be recitified? I'd really like to avoid a format and reinstall if possible. If it helps, the issue starts in the middle of a session (ie not after a reboot) where initially I can run Firefox etc and after an hour or two I lose all permissions (including not having permission to reboot or turn off the machine), and from then on the issue is present upon reboot on all profiles.
