yes of course, and just as important as there is the same amount of points at stake, but i dont think a united v bolton thread would be left open, i think it would be moved to the united main thread.

bring this on....gutted not able to travel over to it due to work commitments, sold me tickets, and there have been tickets appearing for this on the united site, if anybody really wants to go......

    Draw
    My dream scenario

    Wednesday

    United beat bolton
    Spurs take points off Chelsea

    Sunday

    United beat Liverpool
    Arsenal Chelsea draw

Then it would be cocks out time

    Arsenal
i think both games will result in a draw. as usual they will be tight ugly matches, and if there is a winner it will probably be completely against the run of play as oft happens in these games...

Am going to this one myself... Really looking forward to it, hopefully Neville will come on to score the winning goal through Reina's legs in the 95th minute. Would be excellent... :D

    Chelsea
United normally do well against Liverpool at Old Trafford, where the game is totally changes the dynamic of this game, and how Fergie sets out to play them, which in this case, will be going at Liverpool.

yep, neville rocket from 35 yards after an assist pass from stevie gerrard...and after liverpool having played united off the park, hitting the post 3 times and a stone wall penelty denied. 2 harsh offside decisions against torres. united play the whole game with 10 men, foster send off after 3 minutes and o shea playing in goal with 1 hand tied behind his back. neville gets fined 5 grand for kissing the badge. vidic knocks carragher out cold with an "accidental" boot in the head. benitez claims a moral victory.

now that, would be a super sunday.

ehh that's John O'Shea's job, mister!

BTW, does anyone know the site where you can enter 2 teams and it gives you the results, etc., from their previous encounters? Someone was asking about it before re: Celtic and United, AFAIK. Cheers.

True, but the flip-side of that is Liverpool are due a result against United. United have walloped Liverpool at OT true, but have also mugged Liverpool in Anfield the past few times. With Liverpool finally hitting a rich vein of form and United stuttering slightly (though still grinding out results) I'm looking forward to this one a lot more now than I would have been a month ago.

I'll stick my neck out and go for Liverpool to win 0-2 (against the run of play), Torres and Kuyt. Chelsea - Arsenal 1-1, United still in command of EPL.

Impossible to make a sane prediction as Bolton could take lumps out of Ronaldo/Nani/Anderson if playing

Liverpool have the advantage of a full week off, so a fresh team in good shape should pose a test for Fergie. Would he play one up front I wonder?

Not sure, I think whoever beats Liverpool of the top 3 will make a significant step towards becoming champions.

If there is ever a good time to play Utd it is now. Liverpool have won their last 8 (or is it 7?) games on the trot and Torres & Gerrard are arguably in the forms of their career. Mascherano and Reina are also playing very well. Ive only seen bits of utd recently but they seem to be grinding out results rather than playing particularly well. Theres no doubt they will be up for it against Liverpool though.

Having said that, I dont feel particularly confident. Utd have done well against us in recent years although for the most part, the matches have been very close.

Heres hoping Utd pick up a couple of injuries against Bolton! Id also love for Fergie to pick Scholes & Giggs.

Going by how easy United had it earlier this season against the pool, I cant see nothing else but a United win...

Anderson was very very good and Torres was easily matched for pace and power by United's centre backs, with Agger out Pool are not good enough...

Wouldn't say they had it easy. Scored a scrappy goal in a tightly contested scrappy match and planted 10 men behind the ball. Liverpool then couldnt break them down. Agger has been out all season and we still have the 2nd best defense in the league away from home, conceding just 9 goals.

    Chelsea
United won a tactical smash and grab against Liverpool at Anfield. At Old Trafford, the game will be different. United tend to attack teams at Old Trafford :) I'm not hugely worried about the game, Liverpool might do us, but I'd be confident of victory.
Think if Fergie gets the selection right we'll win, if Giggs and Scholes play, it'll be a tough game :)

actually, it was easy for united. they totally controlled the game and liverpool only threatened from 2 mistakes from van der sar, set pieces. babel had a shot from distance wide. the united defence just mopped up long ball after long ball. not once in that game did i feel that liverpool were anyway on top and united were comfortable. indeed, rooney missed an absolute sitter for 2-0 (cost me a score with mr alan also!!!!!!). and 10 men behind the ball is normally a liverpool tactic, not uniteds.

this game, will be the same i think. tight and scrappy.

Main thing now compared to December is we have a settled formation and starting XI, we look very dangerous going forward with this new formation rather than what Rafa was playing back then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭andrew1977

I will be there myself , Streford End lower tier seats for me and the little lad.
If we manage to keep Torres quiet, i can see us nicking it 1-0, rooney for me to bag the winner.
Torres does worry me as he is quality, we dont seem to be firing on all cylinders of late but most of the time we perform against Liverpool at Old Trafford. If we win this and Bolton midweek the league is ours to lose.

liverpool i hope. Will definitely be watching this one and all coverage up to it the day before. Going to be a great weekend for football. United despite some results of late are struggling through games. What would the predictions for this match be if ronaldo was to get injured against bolton?? Liverpool would arguably be favourites to win then.

I can't see anything other than a tight game. a ONE NIL VICTORY FOR ONE OF TEAMS, here's me hoping its liverpool and goal scored by our man, torres!

It wbrilliant if the pool could be the cause of losing 3 invaluable points for Man U but I really cant see it. 2-1 Man U I feel.

I know I will get slated for this BUT:::::

Pool to win 2-1, Ronaldo to score first then Torres with a cracker and Babel to score on the counter.

were liverpool not in better overall form the last time ye played us? as in, un defeated in the league and best start ever and all that? true, ye have won 4 or 5 on the trot, but before that, didnt win in 5 or 6, and this stream of wins have been home games against some pretty poor teams like newcastle, reading, bolton(a), boro, west ham all who are not playing great at the moment.

Liverpool are hitting good form, with Torres and Gerrard in leathal form, Mascherano showing us the class player that he is which he didnt at the beginning of the season.

This for me has a draw written all over it...if I was a gambling man though I'd just favour United, I dont think Torres will get much space in OT and if united can keep him at bay thats half or a least quarter of the battle.

1-1 for me, What odds on Rio or O Shea to score again? That would nearly be as bad Gary Neville scoring at this stage for Pool fans

People are remembering Uniteds games at Anfield, more than Liverpool at Old Trafford, like last year when we beat you quite comfortably 2-0 at home.

It'll be a different sort of game, United won't be as defensive. Think there will be a clear winner.

Hitting Pool at the wrong time, there confidence is sky high and the look solid now. Dont think it will be as easy as before. I hope your right but there is no clear winner.

StickyMcGinty is right lets all focus on Bolton first eh?!

nope we were in **** form we had just lost 3-1 to reading its the period where we threw away everything and the time hicks went of talking to jurgen,
we've won our last 7 including home and away to inter milan,
    liverpool win.

I'd slightly fancy Utd to win this one, but not by much if they do. I'd say 2-1 to United or else 1-1. Not much between the teams, but Utd do grind out the results even when they play badly, and they do have a good record against Liverpool as of late. Ronaldo and Torres are probably the 2 best players in the league. It'll be interesting to see which one of them comes out on top on Sunday.

Steve Bennet is refereeing the game, so Ronaldo will get kicked around the place, probably have a stone wall penalty denied, match of the Day will ignore it and say it was a dive. Rooney will get sent off for being in possession of a United shirt. Gerrard will dive in the penalty area and con the ref (who will just be waiting for such an excuse). Foster saves it, only for the ref to retake it three times until Gerrard scores. Bennet then denies Tevez two clear goals leaving Bennet to smirk his way off the pitch.

Match of the Day still sees nothing wrong, preferring to concentrate on Fergie remonstrating with the fourth official. Cue Shearer tut tutting about the way to behave on the pitch.

we have been hearing this since the days of danny murphy. united are a far better team than liverpool and while anything can happen in a one off game which is what this is, more than any other games, i expect united to win. Liverpool have not threatened united in a league game for years now at this stage. last year was the best chance, you owned the ball, but created little and then the legend from waterford struck.

I could easily see nil nil in both games on Sunday. There will be few chances in either and teams might be more afraid of losing than anything else (draw guarantees united still maintain some form of points advantage at the top and likewise Liverpool over everton. I'm sure both teams will go for it but both have good defensive set ups and it could get very cagey after 60 minutes if its still level. Pool are on better form than they were in December regardless of the stats at that time so I don't think united will have as easy a time defensively as they did then.

Either way it'll be exciting (even nil nils in these games are tense).

For the person who asked about the stats website I use

Good range of info including head to head etc.

    Tolerate?

It is nearly worth swapping a 23-0 massacre in return for beating them in Moscow tbh.

Well, alright, 3-0, maybe even 4-0, but it would be worth it for the cockyness from them on Sunday evening, to compare it to the "pfft, who cares, CL is a joke competition anyway that lets 3rd rate teams in and get lucky" if they were beaten in Moscow :)

United are without doubt a better team, I would not dispute this. We are pretty close to them though and if they are having a remotely bad day, we can beat them. They are also not so much better to have a run of about 8 games on us at this stage,
