Toshiba Combi Refuses To Work

    Hi everyone - please can u help me with this problem?
    Within about 3-4 seconds of switching on my Toshiba RD-XV45KB HDD & DVD/VIDEO RECORDER, and selecting any of the hdd, dvd, or vcr choices, it switches off. It's occasionally giving a message "system error 02-56" and i also notice there is a small w flashing to the right of the time in the front panel display.
    I've tried resetting the machine using a pointed instrument as instructed in the manual, to no avail. I've been to Toshiba's web site but can't find any faq screen there where i could check if anyone else has posted about it and there's also no link to any screen there which might explain what the error message means. I bought this in June '07 from Argos, so at least i can still look to get my money back under the guarantee even though Argos no longer sell it (it's listed at Toshiba's site as being a discontinued line).
    I have no techy knowledge, so if any of you know how to sort this problem out could you describe it in easy to read non-techy language please :D......as in "press this button, now press that button marked ***" etc, maybe i'll be able to follow that kind of instruction :o
