Just to let the admins know boards has a yellow/amber rating in siteadviser although there's nothing really in the details.

How are those things updated, I wonder?

    User feedback?

Hey, from what I can see here it's green thanks to some helpful boards.ie users.

Where are you seeing this amber rating?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,995 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

That REL guy really seems to hate boards.ie

It's showing as green for me.

Its back to green for me now, it was showing amber in firefox and on Google search the little symbol beside it said 1 bad download must of just been a fault.

"Running very slow of late.... With annoting Pop ups for surveys."

REl needs to learn the difference between a pop-up and a mass pm.

I'd hazard a guess he/she has been banned from boards and wasn't impressed:)

We're amber yet again due to green joker poker.
    Heres a screen grap.

I hate McAfee with a passion. Theres nothing more annoying then that bloody splash screen every time you turn on the computer. The best kind of anti-virus is the kind that doesnt bother you every 2 hours. [/rant]

I've never used mcafee anti virus so don't have good or bad experiance with it although from what I've read about the anti virus it seems to leaves a lot to be desired.
The amber rating is from siteadviser a separate application.

I don't know what "McAfee" you've been using but I was using it until December (too cheap to renew) and AVG bothers me more with "Updating" and "Update completed, press OK to finish" messages.

SiteAdvisor once rated boards.ie red, for a short time, citing links to a (then) dangerous website star-adserver.com

Is boards really hosting GreenJokerPoker (a.k.a. CasOnline adware)?

    Here's the report.

Well iv said it before, and ill say it again - it shouldnt link directly to an exe file. Instead the banner should link to a page explaining what the story with the file is etc.

+1 An advert linking directly to an exe is bad.

Very suprised if the admins were not on top of this.

    Mike.

It was raised ages ago in Help Desk. I thought they had it fixed (eventually!) but it seems to have gone astray again!

Just be thankful it's not at orange, which means something might go down somewhere in some way at some point in time.

    terorralert.gif

PS - but yeah, a link to an executable file in a banner is a no-no!

Must see if Opera content blocker works for that next time it pops up.

Exactly, in this case it should link to the poker program download page.

Well, if you check the site report, some idiot reviewer accused boards of Browser Exploits. It's the same as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Apple, PBS.org etc, as a website goes, you haven't really "arrived" until an small army of dumb bellends accuses you of everything under the sun.

John Mac I have a question. Did you edit that last part of your post?

On a serious note I think your a good reviewer and know what your talking about. For that reason I gave boards.ie a review. Based on what you said and earlier posters and of course some experience.

The point of anti-virus software is to stop your machine from running software that embeds itself into your system in a way that makes it hard to remove and then damages it.

As such, installing McAfee or Norton anti-virus is akin to curing a headache by paying someone to smash you over the head with a baseball bat.

I don't have the resources of McAfee and Norton, so I can not compete directly in this regard, but if you are a McAfee or Norton user and find yourself with a headache then I've an innovative new cure that may interest you, for a very moderate fee.

The Green Joker Poker download link was fixed months ago, Im sure they will update this eventually.

As for the other comments from unhappy users - meh - this interweb is a serious place. Some people get their jollies from that sort of thing:)
