I have been reading about electric cars recently. I thought all the electric cars would look like the G-Wiz.

When I did a google search, I found the Tesla roadster, which looks like a lotus elise. The only problem is that this is only being sold in the US.

I then found the ZAP Alias, and it is awesome.

It is a three wheeler, and may be classified as a motorbike!

It was originally due in 2008, but having looked at a few sites it looks like it will arrive in April 2009.

I have sent an email to ZAP to see if these cars will be available in Ireland. I would buy one tomorrow if it cost $32k.

Not exactly a Lotus Elise but here's an electric car for sale in Ireland:

I was in London recently and I knew these were catching on there but I was surprised to find just how popular they have become. Of course in london you get free parking, no congestion charge and I think its road tax free too.

Thing goes 20mph and you'd want to be no bigger than average height to avoid looking like mr Bean :-)

    Interesting, ugly as hell though!!

They have zero emissions so should the goverment not be giving free road tax on these based on their new emissions based tax rates? The tax is €144 a year which is cheap but i would rather see them being tax free to promote them.

An electric version of the Ariel Atom was done before. Check it out.

I don't think I could see myself driving one of those REVAi things, but the Zap Alias would be a really cool city car.

Yeah it's clear that they want people to go green but not at the expense of the government coffers. If they were serious about the environment these cars would be encouraged as they are in London.

Think it wins hands down there :-) You might be able to fit a body kit, although its hardly going to look right tearing around at 20mph :-)

Didn't realise the Zap Alias has 322 bhp!! :

Electric cars have been around for donkey's years and most continental manufacturers have had fully-electric versions of their city/hatch models available FS for the last 15 years at least (think 106, AX, Clio, Golf etc, etc.)

So "leftfield/out there" back in those days, and just about getting fashionable now - yet still as impractical, until they eventually sort out the perennial range issues.

I've done the fully-electric vespa scooter for nearly 2 years (in Dublin), and tbh after all the heartache (imagining there would be none whatsoever!) I'd rather push pedals or walk (as I'm doing now, now that the weather's turning :))

Not too shabby! I haven't been able to see the inside of the car yet.
