    Should be a laugh alright.

Wonder will the pub lay on some food ? And free drink if he wins

Sounds like good fun alright. Are you sure it's on a tuesday, isn't the semi-final usually on a Thursday? Oh, the shame of knowing these things :o:o:o:)

The new beach house is a disgrace,
I was there last week and the smell of paint was horrific, shouldn't have been allowed open IMO.

I won't be darkening the door of that establishment again. Popped down to check out the new decor last weekend with my wife. It's pretty much a copy and paste of the Burnaby...like we needed another of its type. It's a characterless pub with no atmosphere. It did stink of paint which was off putting but could be forgiven, what got me was that after ordering and settling into our drinks the lounge girl came over and asked me to remove my hat or leave which blew me away. It wasn’t a base ball cap or anything with an obscenity on it, just a simple and I might add designer cap. We were told this was one of many new rules to keep out undesirables which I would be fairly confident myself and my wife would not be classed as. I was a least relieved to see we were not singled out, other patrons had similar requests made of them. What made it laughable was that it was 6pm on a Sunday, the place was filled with kids running around and people were not notified of these “Rules” until after they had their drinks served to them. The owner was present and sending the lounge girls over to pass on his messages so they are not the ones at blame, in fact they got more embarrassed making requests to the patrons then the patrons got themselves. Rant over.

With that type of policy it's hard to see them showing a Eurovision contest. Might be out of character with the direction they want to take the pub. It should be on in the bar though.

I really can't see the angle it’s going for. A good percentage of the 'undesirables', as you say, use to be its customers.
And no I’m not talking about floods of hoddie wearing trash. Just the middle of the road local boys and girls that went down to the B.House for a Pt or two to socialise. No fuss really. There was no severe dress code and if any trouble occurred, it would be contained easily and quickly.

Unfortunately things have gone to the dogs now. They have seemed to sign up for the more pretentious 'up their own arses', as I would say, approach.

I can't really see it working for them. We have The Burnaby and the Woodlands Lodge for that.
The real strength of the B.House was that it was a pub for everyone. The main part was open for anyone. The middle part for the Local auld men. And then Danns's quaint atmosphere was for the more middle-aged generation.

Unfortunately this also means we will also be unable to verify the 'normal' from the 'scum' groups of 18-20 year olds that will be drinking cans around the corner from us because they have no place to drink in Greystones.
Not even CCTV will stop them......

Definitely won't be returning to the beach house anytime soon for food, went there this afternoon with the family and a couple of friends and the food was deplorable, a couple of us got chips and burgers and when they were served we asked the waitress for ketchup who then informed us that they had none, joke....after complaining one of the staff ran out to the shop to get ketchup but in fairness most of our food was gone at this stage, also my wife ordered an open chicken sandwich with salad except there was no salad and the sandwich was just a few tiny pieces of chicken on 2 separate slices of brown bread with mayo...very disappointing, will not be returning

Apparently the Burnaby (and presumably BH) staff are aware of this thread. I must admit I was taken aback to hear that they were reading these boards! I work in the Burno and there was a print-out of this thread circulating.

Just an observation, really, I'm not going to risk getting into the merits and demerits of any of my employer's pubs!

Maybe; given that the owner and management of premesis mentioned above are basically rude in their treatment of customers and staff; It might be a good idea to support Woodlands. Someone mentioned above about it '' being up itself''. I disagree. Just because the new owner wants to keep scumbags out (tracksuits, celtic shirts, wayne rooney haircuts) hardly constitutes being up yourself. I like Woodlands. He is making a genuine effort and his staff are top notch. I hope it succeeds. Based on experience with that other rude pratt, I refuse to spend a penny at any of those other pubs. If you feel the same, give Woodlands a turn and help to create a better ''buzz'' there.

Recently moved to Greystones from Wicklow Town and have to say that I love the area and general atmosphere in the town. But the place is starved of a decent pub. Have been to all 3 and to be honest I loved Danns bar...the unassuming comfort of it, trad music and fires, was great. The Beach house was closed for renovations when I moved and I was really looking forward to it. The result is so disappointing though, not the decor, not the staff...the attitude. I was aware of the "Rules" from friends and it is ridiculous, have we decided to forego common sense in the mist of all this madness! I went into the BH on my own on Thursday nite for a quiet pint. However as I walked in the door, 2 staff checked me from head to toe to ensure I "conformed" to the rules. Lovely pint, decent enviroment but I felt awkward. The night I moved to Charlesland I went to the BH (Sports Bar)...the place was rundown, there were a few old men at the counter, the pint was good and the girl behind the bar leaned on the counter and chatted to the locals...I thought oh yeah, I liked it....has this now been banished?
On The Burnaby my mates came to visit me and I decided to take them for some grub in the burnaby, we had put some bets on in the bookies and decided to have some lunch and a drink, my friends girlfriend joined us and we took our seat. Nobody was watching the telly so I asked the barman would he mind switching to channel 4 so I could watch the race...he refused, I thought he misheard my request but he blankly refused again. He advised the telly on the other side of the pub was for racing. I explained that we were eating as the food arrived to our table. He was unmoved and refused to put the racing on. We paid up and left (I ain't been back) Shocking people management that is hard to believe. Nearly bettered the day that the waitress refused to let us even look at the menu because we were sitting in the wrong section (Ireland were playing France, place was packed but we were not allowed eat where we sat).

I'll be heading to Delany for a pint I think, Woodlawn is a lovely atmosphere, but its a niche market and not everyones cuppa (Excellent staff) Not sure what the Burnaby & BH are going for but the rules are ridiculous and fly in the face of peoples inteligence. Not sure what crowd they want but I am 24, dont wear caps, but have a hooded jumper or two. I work for one of the largest companies in Ireland and own my own home, I don't consider myself an undesirable but I live in the one town in Ireland where I could possibly be unable to get a pint. Having worked in the hospitality industry for many years and learned from some excellent publicans...the proprietors of the Burnaby and BH are welcome to there numbers if they would like advice on running a successful pub...believe me I have seen the good, the bad, but these 2 pubs are the ugly!

In fairness I moved to Charlesland 2 years ago and I found that the Delgany inn being the best pub, unfortantly it is closed now...
As in regards of the other pubs, I have no interest in them except the woodlands lodge..
Least there they dont look you up and down there..

What is it with the Burnaby and Beach house...?? why do they think they are so special...?
    Its Greystones not Montreal...

I hope they do look at these boards and wake up and smell the coffee as I can see the woodlands doing well from all this....
    They will from me anyways..

On second thoughts; wouldn't it be better if the miserable bugger didn't smell the coffee and lost business to someone who is interested in and is delivering a service that you the punter are paying for. Support Woodlands and don't go to places where you are not welcome.

I prefer the burnaby, as a pub, to be honest. Although, with the space that they have I think they could do a lot more, maybe some music...maybe a "Greystones got talent competition" or something :-)

Delgany Inn closed again? anyone know why (not that I've been there recently)

I generally go to the Burnaby - I admit it's not great, but reasonably comfortable and you can usually get a seat. It's never been a particularly friendly pub though, and i've been drinking their for 15 years (er, not continuously).

The Woodlands Lodge is better than the old Script but its still totally devoid of atmosphere - I think the weird design of the building is to blame, its like a corridor.

Haven't checked out the revamped beach house yet - if you can now go the gents without having to roll up your trousers though, it'll be an improvement.

Sorry to bring up an old post but I just joined and was scrolling through them.

Everyone always forgets about the Orchard in Killincarrig. It had a bad rep years ago but it's a much better boozer now with a great beer garden for those hot summer days. It's totally fenced in too so it's safe for the nippers.

I agree on the BH and The Burno. The service is rubbish and there's no atmosphere. I remember years ago sending a pint back cause it was flat. The bar man (who shall remain nameless but still works there) poured it from a height into anothar glass and handed it back saying, "look, now it's fizzy".

Danns is a great spot and I always hit the Horse and Hound for matches :)
