Cant get usb adapter for xbox softmod to work

Hi guys, been tryin to connect usb sticks to the xbox to softmod it the sticks are lighting up but arent being recognised by the xbox we tried numerous sticks and a PSP. Anybody got any advice or ideas? Thanks guys.
