After my new found interest in scratch cups i did a bit of research into scratch cups in my very general area. sharing is caring mar a deir na carebears!!!

    18/5 Galway-junior
    31/5 Gort-junior, inter, minor
    2/6 Tuam-inter
14/6 Claremorris-senior, junior, inter (played recently, greens excellent)
    29/6 Athenry- junior
    29/6 Athlone- senior
    6/7 Athlone- junior, inter
    27/7 Galway-inter.

i got all this info from the gui website so i presume its fairly accurate. hope its of use to someone.

The timesheet for the JSC in Bray on the 24th of May is now open.

Swithered about playing in this one, but haven't played the course yet so going to play another open on that day instead.

Played last year there in Junior scratch, aswell as junior cup. Hated the place as did all the guys with me.

I played in skerries jsc, 1st time i had played the course and struggled to be honest. Wind was blowin a gale and just couldnt get it going. Only good thing to come out of it ws an eagle on the 8th.

Playing in Hermitage end of this month for my club in the Junior Cup. Have played 3 practice rounds there already and must say its a quality track.

I have entered for Headfort & Mount Woosley JSC on the June bank holiday weekend aswell.

Junior Scratch Cup - County Louth - Sat 7th June.

Anyone know much else about this one? Quite fancy it but have a funny feeling it could be expensive.

€50 36 holes time sheet opened on Monday...one of the lads in work was trying to get a time and it was full when he got through at lunchtime. Could be some cancellations in the days before it. Course should be in great nick as I think the Irish Amateur is there the week before.

Cool, cheers for the info! I'll ring them tomorrow to put my name on standby (or at least try to!)

South County JSC is on July 6th.

There's a semi-open every Wednesday for 25 quid with a member for 18 hole Single S'ford. I'm a member and go up most Wednesdays after work. If anyone playing in the JSC is looking to go up for a look prior to the day I'd be happy to organise a Wednesday evening in June.

What time can you play up to on a Wednesday evening? I'd be interested. Haven't played the course yet.

5pm is pretty optimum. Not really worth it after that as it's a mix of fourballs and threes so if it slows down at all you'd be rushing.

Probably be a bit of a rush for me getting out for that time. Been meaning to play the course one weekend i'm free though so might check it out that way.

I see Dundalk and Slade Valley also have their JSC's on that day... decisions, decisions!

Played Slade Valley last year and really enjoyed it. Got a great welcome and the course is nice and interesting. Would rather play a JSC on a course i've played before than not.

Would you consider South County to be a better course?

I grew up playing Slade Valley. My grandfather was a founder member. I just meant it's a short par 68 course and SC is 7,000+ yards par 72.

As for the subjective features, I don't think there's a comparison there either. SV can be really nice and can also be in rag order where as SC is always kept well but maybe a SV member might disagree...

Graeme - I've played SV and from what I've heard about SC from mates of mine who play in the Leinster Winter League, there is no comparison. My preference would be SC first, then Dundalk (I've played it numerous times - it's a good test), then SV.

Must remember the suncream for Headfort tomorrow!

How did people go in Headfort?

How did people go in Headfort?

Superb day out!! That place really is a bit of golfing heaven. Scorching sunshine and both courses were in great nick. Was slow enough though... took us 4 3/4 hours for the first round. In that heat it was tough going. Was almost dark by the time we finished.

Played pretty well but didn't get among the prizes. I think around 148 won it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭madds

A big dump.....I had a 87 gross on the New Course in the morning....think I 3 stabbed most greens...found them very, very slow. Kept the ball dry all day, and only lost one ball in heavy rough.

Was absolutely shattered (combination of the heat and a foot injury I have) by the end of the first 18 so did not play in the PM.

    Lovely course though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Mister Sifter

    Bug Dump?

Wish i could have kept my ball dry... finished 6 over. 3 double bogeys killed me. All three came when i put into the water. A case of what could have been!

Just home from playing there, it's in super condition. It's a good test of golf, which today I failed. Struggled off the tee for the first 7 holes, sorted it then but damage was done. Enjoyed it though, beautiful day.

There's a junior scratch in Kilkenny on 22nd June (Sunday), I believe it's a nice track, anyone played if before?
Worth a trip down from Dublin?
If any of you who have played it say it's worth going down, I'll go.
Anyone interested in going down let me know, I can book a line (provided it's not booked up.)

Yes, have played it and it is a lovely course. Old fashioned and Gary Murphy's home course. You'll enjoy it.

I'm not low enough to play JScr but it is worth the trip. for you definitely.

Eh have to say, I really would recommend Woodbrook. It's an excellent set-up just outside Shankill on the way to Bray.

It's a parkland not too far off the coast-line so it has that firm, kind of heath-land feel to the turf. Always good greens too with good facilities to warm up before you play.

It's quite old school and I think it hosted a few Irish Opens around 30 years ago. I watched a Seniors Tour event there when I was younger so it's a well respected course.

It's very flat and as-you-see-it so knowing the course before you play it wouldn't be as essential as elsewhere.

Great golf course and well worth the trip.

My old man won the captains prize there when he was 15, many moons ago.

Tried to get in last Friday with money up front and told that I had No Chance!
Time Sheet full and they are not expecting drop outs.

Yeah, it's a nice track. Greens are always fast and true. Well worth a visit. Their Scratch is normally 2 rounds, I think?

Ok, HI, I play off 6 but have never played a junior scratch cup. Whats the story witht them. 36 holes i believe. Stroke or stableford? I am down to play in black Bush on Saturday. What should i expect.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,946 ✭✭✭slumped

    Hi all

Not one for the scratch cups myself, prefer stableford comps.

But if you go here: http://www.gui.ie/open_fixtures.asp?pid=14&area=1 and do a search for the word scratch you get every scratch cup in ireland returned.

I'm down to play in that one too. 36 holes. Strokeplay. Your two scratch scores added together will be your score. The lowest two round total wins. There will also be prizes for best nett, and best nett/scratch score in each round.

Not sure what else to say. Black Bush isn't the best, but not a bad track all in all. What time you playing at on sat?

Anything else you want to know, just ask.

Thinking of playing the Inter SC at South Meath tomorrow, but was wondering if the course is worth the trip down to Trim and the weather could be dodgy tomorrow? Anyone played it? The website has no pics.

    Thanks.

Tough day at Black Bush on Saturday. Pretty much a washout. 5 over (78), 7 over (80) won it in the end.

Despite all the rain, greens were absolutely superb.

Anyone going to Woodbrook this Sunday for the JSC?

After a week in bouncing around very different kinds of clubs in Ibiza my skills are primed and ready ;)
