Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Any point in somewhere like Thailand for a short trip??

It's looking like I might have a few weeks free at the beginnig of the summer and I want to go away somewhere beyond Europe, so I was thinking of maybe Thailand (and apologies for like the tenth Thailand related thread recently!).

What I'm wondering is if there's much point going for maybe 10-14 days? I know most people who are asking about Thailand are planning on travelling there for a considerable period, or are doing all of SE Asia.

What I'd like is a fairly chilled and quiet place, more "backpackery" than touristy, with cheap but half-decent accommodation. I'd ideally like a fair bit of sun, though am I right in saying June is heading into mansoon season? I'd also like to do a bit of diving and/or trekking, and also would love to see some beautiful scenery and cultural spots like temples. In terms of nightlife, I wouldn't be into the all night parties, but would prefer somewhere with decent, cheapish restaurants and decent bars or spots where you can hang out and have a few beers.

Do people think that this sounds doable, or is it pointless going for such a short time? Would another country altogether be more suitable for a trip like this? Would anyone have any recommendations of a place that might fit these criteria? Furthermore any advice on spots to stay/eat/drink/go diving or trekking etc? Also,

I haven't really done a huge amount of research as of yet, so any pointers for any books/websites that have some decent information would also be welcome.

Any help at all is much appreciated!
