Does anyone know when an ambulance is legally obliged to be present at an event?

ie crowds of 1,000 or 5,000. Also if you know that legislation that controls this.

    thanks

there is no legal requirement as such it depends on the H&S Statments and the risks of the event, ie if its a seated event of several thousand listening to someone reading from a book the risk of someone needing an ambulance is low (but one is generally there because of numbers alone).

If however its a small event of 100 people jumping out of planes with parachutes (a safe event but with high risk if something fails) then one would be present. Having said that Ive worked at events where there was only 20 people competing (and about the same number of spectators) where an Ambulance was present and other events with about 1000 people with just a few first aiders present.

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear :)

The codes of practice for safety at indoor concerts / outdoor concerts / sports grounds etc. set out standards for medical cover at events. Anyone deciding to provide less than the level of cover set out in these documents could find themselves in lot of bother if something went wrong, and if the event needed a licence, wouldn't be getting it.

Most events exceed these standards due to insurance requirements.
