Which is the more enjoyable way of finding out how a river is fishing?

Sitting in front of your screen and typing the question on a forum or ........getiing your gear together, heading to the river in question and trying a few flies?

I know how I'd do it.....:)

wasn't great, but I got a small brown, yes it was one, but I suppose it was worth it!
