Its 170 approx before delivery from Deutschland
is it worth it? how much would a comparable pci ex card be?
I know replacing the motherboard would add expense but the ram and cpu are good for a new mobo

Interested in how many people run an AGP setup still. So I added a poll!!!

I'd just get a new mobo, AGP is completely dead in terms of high end gaming.

have the option of a radeon x800 256mb for nothin
    its PCIex
worth taking? and spending money on a new mobo with pciex
I know nothing about this card btw

It has nothing on the 9600gt

Well if it's free, definitely take it - very old card at this stage, but still worth 30-40 euro in the second hand market and great for games like Battlefield 2, Half Life 2, CS Source, Call of Duty 2 etc at high settings. It's miles better then the 9700Pro, so that tells you whatever you're playing at the moment will work fantastically on the X800.

So if you're in budget hell, focus on the mobo+cpu, the X800 will get you by for awhile, unless you're itching for crysis.

The best AGP card available was the Nvidia 7900GS iirc:)

    +1

If you were on a socket 939 x2 I would have said get the 38650 AGP.

But since you are on AM2 dual core and on ddr2 ram def get a better motherboard.

    Gives you much more options

have a look here for a thread on how people have gotten on with the 3850 AGP
    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1276019

Seems to be a few drivers issues.

if you looked at the thread
What I had seen on another forum is that the card won't run at 8x agp in via chipsets... only at 4x.

so its agp problem , Tbh i'd just save and invest in a nice new mobo and a new Pcie Graphics card

but the x800 should last you for another little bit , my bro has an x300 and it still runs allot of games fine.

I'd be interested to see the poll expanded to show who's rocking PCIe 2.0.

I plan to be within the next 2-3 months

maybe a moderator could add options to the poll
    SLI
    Crossfire
    Pciex 2.0

or whatever and change the thread title - I dont know how to(maybe if someone told me)
If your interested I can screen capture the vavle survey or hardware and post it

    Steam survey, http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html

I think I last ran this in December. Shows the Geforce 8800 as the most popular card. And PCIe as the most popular interface.

I think PCIe 2.0 is still in the early stages of adoption but with ATI and Nvidia now having a selection of cards for it, it's only a matter of months before most gamers will move over to it.

its now 168 euros starting to become cheaper than a new motherboard and pciex card

what kind of price for a similiar performing PCIex card?

  • Registered Users Posts: 83,235 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

if you swap your MoBo make sure the CPU and RAM will work for it. thats always the pain in the ass.

The exact same card in pci-e is 145, so the gap isn't that big, but 145 for a 3850 is vastly overpriced considering the performance.

    Or, a much better card:

    wow
pciex just wins hands down even though the agp price came down!

    hmmmn

all the possibilities! May even build a new pc from scratch!
get an intel quad or something the amd dual core just seems to be missin something!

see then again thats why Im tempted by this card coz if I get a new mobo I wanna get a better processor and go all out

so its either spend a little or spend alot!

What ye think of that? Its a hundred cheaper!
How would it compare with what I have currently - a constantly crashing and overheating radeon pro 9700
how would that card run counter strike source? That pretty much all the gaming I do
Are graphics cards important for video editing or is that processor power?
    I run a dual core 2.8 amd 1.5GB ram

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Not important for video editing. Not a stellar card, but much faster then a 9700Pro and fine for Source at high settings at almost any res up to 1680x1050.

Worth it for a final AGP upgrade, to be honest, if CSS is the extent of your gaming.
