Seeings how all the watering holes were closed lastnight me and a few mates went to the Cinema to see Vantage Point, in the fick there is a car chase with a new model Opel Astra chasing the last gen Opel Astra, i know what your thinkin' not the best car for the job, but the cineography really was done well, made the cars seem more applealing!

    Any thoughts?

Ford most def sold more Mustangs with the release of Bullit!

    Car placement is definitely important.
Sure Bonds Aston Martin and white Lotus are famous Bond cars. Must have helped sell a few. I know I want one :D

yea i saw that too, and if ya noticed, they overtook quite a few astras as well. There was also a ton of VWs in traffic, and that was pretty much it car wise. Havnt seen product placement like that since I Robot

Wow GM/Opel must have paid over the odds for that gig.

I dunno if it makes any difference, Lotus and AM were plugged for years by 007 but both are small companies still! (and its not like Lotus cars are that expensive).

I'm willing to bet the Mini One/Cooper range got a boost in the States from that misbegotten Italian Job remake though.

Ford have paid top dollar for having the new Mustang appearing in lots of films lately. Transformers, I am Legend and most noticably the remake of Knight Rider (which is dreadful btw).

Remember thge Ford Mondeo in Casino Royale. Was a bit weird seeing a ford in a Bond movie. Was a strange one seeing as though they wrote off the DB9 very quickly in the film.

Also the mini in the Italian Job is savage

    Mondeo...DB9....what's the difference really:pac::pac::pac: they're both Fords

Yeah, the Model T in "Big Business" and many other Laurel & Hardy films had a big impact.

the same could be said of an A150 and an SL55, both are still Mercs

Have to say that im surprised that Aston Martin agreed to the scene in Casion Royale where the car flipped, when he tried avoid the girl on the road!!
Didnt think the DBS would have failed the Elk test

It seems to happen in nearly ever big movie. Did you notice in Transformers that every vehicle was a GM product of some sort and in Casino Royale that every vehicle was of Ford origin!

    Yep I wouldn't mind a DB9 :D

A TV series might have even more impact if popular - in peoples living rooms every week. Also by the time a film reaches the TV networks etc. the model being promoted might even be replaced etc.

However cars are not 'stars' in TV shows they way they once were - Tomas Magnum's Ferrari, the GMC A-Team van, Granada from The Sweeney, the Firebird from Knightrider...cars just blend into the background in most modern shows and little effort is made to give a character a suitable set of wheels. Only exception I can think of is the Cortina/Quattro of Gene Hunt but that's set in the 70s/80s...

Little known fact (AFAIK): the Magnum producers contacted Porsche about using the 928 (the ****-hot car of the time). However the deal fell through because the sunroof opening was too small for overhead shots and Porsche were inflexible because they never anticipated the show would be such a smash hit. Cue the Ferrari 308 GTS...
The actual 928 evaluated was used in a big car chase scene early in the series. And Tom Selleck later bought the main cast members a 928 (each!) out of his own money for contributing to the shows success. One of the nicest guys in Hollywood by all accounts....

    The Transporter: BMW 735i E38

    Transporter 2: Audi A8 W12

Definitely films where the cars are the stars :) I prefer the Audi myself!

The Aston used was actually a DBS...

...and not half as cool as the V8 Vantage used by Timothy Dalton in 'The Living Daylights'.

Modern Astons are the car-of-choice for WAGs, rappers and B-list celebs...

The Bond people switched to BMW for a few films, the money on offer for product placement was substantially more than Aston were offering at the time. The Z3, 750i, Z8 were all used.
Obviously Aston Martin (Ford) saw the the error of their ways.

The only thing I remember from movie 'Layer Cake' is the Audi RS6 Avant / estate, Audy trying to sell it to men and MILFs at the same time I guess, pairing it with Daniel Craig. Oh, here's a clip http://www.auto-power-girl.com/video-audi/now-playing/audi_rs6_avant_short_clip_from_layer_cake_featuring_the_cult-288

Fiat actually provided Panda 100HPs for the last Bond movie but they weren't used - Ford must have paid enough to get all the incidental vehicles changed.
