    Hi Everyone,
My girlfriend's in Australia at the moment, and she'll be in New Zealand between May 1st and May 23rd. She'd like to do some skiing but all she can find is ski packages that include flights and/or car rental. But she's 24 and apparently you can't rent a car unless you're 25. And she already has her flights organised. So does anyone know what the story is with skiing in NZ? Getting to the resorts by bus, places that will organise packages for you? Also any other suggestions for what to do in NZ would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

She could just wait until she gets there and sort something out then. I'd say a lot of the big resorts would have transport running from local towns.

Mt Hutt is only 90 mins from Christchurch. I don't know what the snow would be like in May though.

Biggest problem will probably be the lack of snow in May I'd have thought, but might get lucky with an early start to the season.
    clicky
The New Zealand ski season generally runs from June through to early November. Mt Hutt is always the first area to open, usually in late May or June, with the other ski areas opening in late June or early July.

Thought as a Kiwi I should put my two cents in!!

I wouldnt say she would have much luck in may, their having the best summer in 14 years or something there at the moment!!
You didnt mention which island she's going to be in?
South Island (Southern Alps) - http://www.chillout.co.nz/home.asp
North Island (Whakapapa & Turoa - Mt Ruapehu) - http://www.mtruapehu.com/winter/

My advice would be to definitely leave it till she gets there, this early it can be very unpredictable - any of the information centres in the city's when she gets there will be able to help though!!

Oh and the intercity bus service would be the best buses for getting to the ski fields, or even around the country in general - www.intercity.co.nz

OR!! Depending on what she's looking at doing there, contiki (contiki.com) run the absolute best all inclusive tours... not many people here seem to have heard of them but they run tours all over the world for 18-35 year olds, myself and a friend did one round europe last year and it was absolutely awesome!!

    I'll stop now!!!
