Hairbrained Idea?

    My hairbrained idea.

10 noted casinos work together and hold an 'Irish Cardrooms Masters' tournament..entry fee of 1k (approx)

each casino that signs up to this holds 4 x 100 Euro tourments in a month. The top 5 players (in the 4 game league) from each casino for that month goes forward to the Irish Cardroom Masters where they play for the title of 'Irish Cardrooms Master' . The winnings from the 4 mini league tournys go towards the 1k buy in to the overall cardroom maters tourny. ...they keep the rest of thier winnings.

I know it's hairbrained but it could work and get some intercasino rivalry going, plus some players will have to nail thier colous to a mast...(so to speak)

    meh? boo? yey?

For one, I don't think the nailing of the colours to the mast thing is relevant, as someone might play in Casino A mostly, but fail in their qualifiers, but paly in Casino B's qualifier and win in that and 'represent' them. I don't think this would get enough support to work really in the format above. There is enough 'rivalry' going already with stupid rules whereby staff from one casino can't play in another (without getting in a bit of trouble from their current employers at least).

    How is this enforced?

As Lloyd said it isn't really enforced, but if word of mouth gets back to employers I believe a bollicking at least ensues. Obviously, not being an employee of any casino I don't know exact repercussions etc, but it is a silly rule regardless of the outcome of it.

    It isn't really.

    I thought so.

It would be interesting to have the best player from each major cardroom play each other for a masters title.

A tournament format is a really bad way of deciding who this would be.

I agree but there is no other way.

Perhaps a tournament with 25/50 blinds which never increase. This would reduce the luck element but would not get rid of it completely.

Why does it have to be who the 'best player' is, it's just an idea to keep poker interesting somewhat. Irish Cardroom master just like any title born from a tournanent is a temporary thing but could develop poker somewhat if it were looked at with more positive eyes..Casino double chances, weekly freezeouts club specific leagues don't really suit the punter that ldoes not frequent the same establishment, As OZ said (more or less) , why should a casual punter play in one casino when some of the prizemoney goes to a club specific league...
Just trying to open it up a bit......plus I like the idea of a friendly rivalry, thats is how most sports/games develop......With some of the current thinking...sure games like darts would never have got off the ground......Poker is plateauing at the moment, it's time to put on the thinking caps to develop it. IMO...

    What would you suggest?

I know a tourney like that is unrealistic because it would take an age and a day to play.
