My vote is we should welcome all comers that have played a bit to this session. Between text replies to Des and posts on here we should be able to get a good picture for numbers. Agree we should book one pitch to be sure - if you give me the number Simon I'll book it on my card.

If we have the numbers we could go with 2 pitches - either by booking another one or taking one that will likely be available on Saturday try nabbin it for free maybe). Last thing we want to do at this stage is turn away the oppurtunity to have a look at new players due to space limits.

Jules heres the contact details, It looks good to get 1 pitch and play a competitive style game on that and the rest can have a more casual kick about on another pitch to the side.

I've booked one pitch for 3-5pm on Saturday - €80 which is pretty decent. There's another pitch available at the moment so we can book that tomorrow if we need to.

Depending on how the studying is going I might head down. I wont play though. Interested to see if any of the new lads are any good. And Simon, are the 3 lads the ones I asked if they were interested in playing that time? Or is it different fellas?

Just found out that I have a match at 2.30 on Saturday so won't make this.

You playing Sunday Dave? Hope so cause there's no one I know who's a proven 11 a side player playing. The usual mix of the "ah i'll be there" heads.

Also, Ed got himself banned :D

So we're looking at possibly 17? Not worth getting a 2nd pitch IMO.

We have one for 2 hours and with not everyone turning up we're probably looking at 15 which is fine for 3 teams and rotating games

    Is this booked for 3?

I have no idea how busy this place is on a saturday and don't really want to wander from group to group asking if they are the "boardeaux folk".

Any chance of some meeting place and time for the new folks who don't know anything/one? :)

Defo not gonna make this. Will someone send me a PM about how the newbies done and all that? Also, anyone driving out next Wednesday for the friendly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,357 ✭✭✭emc2

    Guys,

I've been sick for the last couple of days so probably won't be able to play tomorrow. I'll pop down for a while anyway.

Anyone know what bus i should get from the city centre that would take me near sportsco? I'll walk it if i have to, but it looks a fair distance.

The dart to grand canal dock then a 10minute walk is prob your best bet.

How'd this go guys? And decent players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭FrankGrimes

yeh, it as a very decent session. 15 players so we played 6 aside and rolled on and off 3 players so everyone got about 90 minutes and it was a fast paced game so a good workout and worked off a bit of the rust that would otherwise have been there on Wednesday.

Think there were 7 new players plus a returning former player in Keith whos in better shape than when he left us, so there is definitely the talent in that 8 to improve our squad. All 8 wouldn't have been uncomfortable in our squad last season and there's definitely 3 or 4 of them that fit the bill as the quality players we need to bring in to bring us to the next level where we'll win the league. That said, we need to see how these lads fare in 11-a-side, so the friendly on Wednesday is a great opportunity.

So the challenge for Des will now be on squad management - who to bring in and do some need to go out. There'll also be the challenge of managing game time for what should be a squad with more strength in depth so lads will fell they're worth a runout. That generates real competition for places, so both these challenges are good things.

We should make a sesion in Ringsend at the weekend a regular thing - will help fitness and if we're gonna have lads fighting to get a runout in matches, its best to give them a chance to show what they can do in training.

Cheers for the summary Jules. Positions wise what are we looking at? I think Andy could do a job for us in the middle. Fantastic on the ball.
