What did you make of the fight?
I thought Mir was going to go through Carwin but Carwin is a beast!

Carwin also seemed a good bit smaller than Mir - so I can't imagine how he's going to size up to Lesner!

I think GSP committed too much to the sub, must have been going for the sub of the night bonus - he could have easily GNP'd Hardy, didn't even attempt any GNP.

hmm , well its hard to be objective seeing as mirs my favorite ufc fighter lol. the way i see it is, mir put on like 30 pounds, and automatically thought that was it, he wouldnt get outwrestled by carwin or brock, and when he got tooled against the cage, he had no clue what to do. I think he could have won if he pulled guard, Carwins never really tried to ground and pound. The thing that surprised me was that carwin attempted two take-downs on mir and he stuffed both, and mirs got terrible wrestling.

which is why i think carwin is going to get mauled by brock. The worst thing to happen to mir was knocking out Nog and rocking Kongo didnt help, he thinks hes Ramon Dekkar or something! :pac:

Gsp wanted to finish a fight to silence his haters, but Hardys a tough guy. although he still dominated him. christ that was a long post

    Wednesday 07/04/10:

    MMA - M.T.:
    Good warm up.
    Shadow boxing.

    Clinch.
    Clinch w/ takedowns.

Thai clinch -> pushing opponents elbow and dropping down going for double underhooks.
Thai clinch -> levering opponents arm and escaping.

    Thai pads:
    L uppercut, cross, L kick.
    1, 2, slip jab, cross, L kick.
    1, 2, slip jab, cross, L hook, R kick.

2 x rounds of full Thai sparring w/ takedowns.

Front squat, Oly bar x 15.
    Rope climb.

    Summary:
Just to give people an idea of what I'm talking about; here's a short video on head movement I found helpful:

This video shows how the head movement is incorporated into the drills, we were using Thai pads, which are big long pads you hold in your hands, the pad man here seems to be using boxing gloves on his hands and a stomach protector:

I agree, Mir is by no mean's a stand up fighter - there's no way he should have tried to stand up to Carwin.
To be honest I hate Brock, so I hope Carwin KO's him but I haven't seen any of Carwin's wrestling and that's going to be a major deciding factor.

I watched a GSP post-fight interview and he actually said himself he should have done more striking.

Looking forward to the next one, Anderson Silva, BJ Penn and Matt Hughes V Renzo Gracie, it's going to be brilliant!

    MMA - B.J.J.:

Rolling, push ups, alligator walk, etc.

    Armbar finishing:
    Bicep cutter.
Some weird one where you cross your elbows over and grab your hands.
Levering their arm, putting foot through the gap and transition to triangle.

    Fighting to defend against armbar.

    Guard:
    Scissor sweep.
Opening guard with knee and passing guard.
    Standing up and opening guard.

    2 x 3 min rounds clinch w/ takedowns.
2 x 3 mins stand up, takedowns & submissions w/ MMA gloves (light strikes to the head).

    Summary:
Great session, would have liked to do a bit more stand up as I seem to be lagging here but my clinch, takedowns and grappling were all fairly decent here!
Gonna try to up the game with my stand up too and bring it all in line.

maia is 7-1 really thinking of betting on him

How did you rate Maia's performance? I felt sorry for him, he actually seemed scared!
Gracie Vs. Hughes was a bit crap - Hughes doesn't seem to be on form at all, which is a shame as he was such a talented fighter!
Also, also - how long are Silva's arms? They're unreal, I knew he had long arms before but they're down to his knees!

    Friday 16/04/10:

    Conditioning:
    Stretch out.

10 mins cross trainer L8 Manual setting.
    3 x rounds of Cindy.

    10 x push ups.
    15 x BW squats.

    Summary:
Felt like crap doing this, funnily everywhere except my lower back hurt, which probably means I didn't warm up enough before I started into the training.
I said I'd leave it at that as I'm hoping to get some rolling in tomorrow and didn't want to chance my back.

    Saturday 17/04/10:

    Conditioning / BJJ sparring:
Conditioning training - 30 seconds of:
Shuttle runs (sprinting on the spot).
    Hindu pushups / dive bombers.
    Hindu squats.
    Jumping lunges.
    Burpees.
    Etc.

    Stretch out.

Grappling sparring 4 rounds between 3-7 mins long of

    More conditioning work.
Good stretch out / warm down.

    Summary:
Was wrecked, it was like training in a sauna, I started off doing a light jog by myself and could barely catch my breath... Spent the rest of the session feeling like I was going to puke.
Didn't perform to my best to say the least. Legs were on fire due to the 2 days of conditioning back to back...

    Monday 19/04/10:

    MMA - B.J.J.:
    Good warm up.
Rolling, push ups, alligator walk, etc.

    Shooting for takedown.
    "Schoolyard" takedown.

    Guard:
Armbar from guard -> transition to sweep.
Armbar from guard -> switching hips to armbar opposite arm.
Triangle from guard -> concentrating on turning hips into it.

    3 x rounds of:
    Escaping guard x 1 min.
    Keeping guard x 1 min.

1 x 3 min round grappling - from mounted position.
1 x 3 min round grappling - from under side control.

Triangle escapes - concentrating on not letting opponent pull my arm across and choking me with it:
    Sit and prey.
    Knee to floor.

    Rope climb x 1 - fail on attempt 2.

    Summary:
Not too much technical stuff, a lot of rolling though.
I wanted to practice some triangle escapes as I keep walking straight into triangles when I pass guard, best defense for this is to not do it in the first place though
Also, I'm hoping it's the weather but I've been FÚCKED the last few days in training... Need to up the conditioning regardless.

    Slipping cross -> L uppercut, R Cross, L hook, R cross.

    Thai pads:
    4 x 3 min rounds w/ takedowns and subs.

    2 x 3 mins sparring.

    Summary:
Left out the last round of sparring as my back was hurting again.
Very tough session, really pushed myself here, although I've been training a lot I still find my conditioning lacking a bit so I'm working on this.
Some good power in my punches laid off on the kicks due to my back.
Sparring went OK, I was a lot more aggressive than usual.
Clinch went well, I reversed 1 takedown and controlled well from Thai clinch but I was taken down twice also.

    Thai pads:
    3 x 3 min rounds - no set routine.

    2 x 3 mins sparring.
    1 x 3 min grappling.
1 x 1 min grappling - felt my back going here so ended the session here.

    Summary:
Back was feeling better but I went for some mad kick combo while sparring and it started to get sore again...
Only really seems to bother me when I'm bridging and front kicks, going to do some light jogging / stretching tonight to see if I can loosen it out before Sat...

    Summary:
    Píssed off with my performance...
It was my first time fighting at intermediate level, so I knew it was going to be a tough one but I thought, I'd be happy to lose on points, as long as I don't get submitted. Got submitted after about 2 mins...
Got to see a few good fights, chatted to a few cool people too.
