If buying new and you know for a fact that the dealer is 'one or two' short of their quarter end target what would people consider a reasonable deal to be looking for on a car of about €25k?

10% off for cash would be quite good I'd have thought.

I'm not comfortable carrying a suitcase full of cash into the dealership
(Just thought I'd get in there before the usual misreading of 'cash' creeps up later on )

Not a straight deal unfortunately there will be a trade in of around €3k's worth (without haggling) involved. Price would be made up of €24k + €1k extras.
I'm thinking that €20k + the car might be achievable, but I don't want to either go in to high or too low and have no experience in this area. Any ideas?

    Make / Model?

Even if they are short of targets a lot of dealers won't be able to stretch to 10% discount as they would loose money at that rate.

For a €24,000 Focus and a dealer looking to hit target, I'd be looking to get the car for €22,000 at the most. Just depends if there is demand for the facelift model.

On a trade in you'll not do next or near as well.

    ^^ lol, no way
Mark-ups are closer to 50%, thanks to the cartels.
And you won't get that 10% off, for the same reason; its not much of a cartel if the members start undercutting each other.

    LOL - Mark up's closer to 50%

Dealers buy have to pay distributors for the cars - depending on which manufacturer it is depends on the margin the dealers get. I can tell you no dealers have margins anywhere near that. Don't know about distributors though.

Different marques would be between 4-15%

Are you serious? Where did you get this information, when, from what manufacturer?

Was it the dealer mark up or the distributor mark up? Is it based on pre or post-tax pricing?

Or did you just make it up???

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

oh gimmeabreak...........I remember reading somwhere a while ago, that VW made, on average, Eur 270 on every Golf. Mind you, their new owners, Porsche, make Eur 7k on every 911........

 50%? It's closer to 5%. Dealers make more money on the difference between discount allowed for trade-ins and the price they then sell them on at.
