a lifestyle and taste based on the conformity to one exact stereotype is not cool,

Couldn't the same be said for all stereotypes?

If you read the OP you'll find no reference to the emo listening to music. They are being bullied for their image. Not that I condone that, just that your horse is a tad wobbly.

Emo is a style of music, and as such those who would call themselves Emo would irrevocably be fans of that music. So yes, it has it's own fashion, and indeed would be how the fans of the style are being targetted, but it doesn't exclude the fact that these people are being beaten up for being fans of a certain genre of music.

I think you are taking this far to seriously. A bunch of madmen in Mexico decide to beat up some emo kids. Terrible i agree.

But emo is only a phase kids go through, not a race or culture. At least they can grow out of their emo phase.

What exactly does "Far too seriously" entail, pray tell? Is it sitting at my keyboard typing? :pac:

Those kids arnt even emo, emos are generally a completley different breed that died when the scene came to life , these are ''scene' , a term that originated in america that refrenced to the life style and look of hardcore melodic music, it hit dublin early 2005 and since kids up on everything it hit ireland all together later 2006.

same way rocker look was there for years but only hit ireland properly around year 2000 or so with the scene of blast which turned into bunch of smelly kids at central bank

I'm a house hermit so I don't know any of them personally but I would suppose I've come across at least that many.
So that justifies getting beaten up then, does it?
I don't know and couldn't really give a flying ****. What do you think?
The only thing more pathetic than an Emo is an Emo-basher.
So if you're a serial rapist who sells naked pictures of your children in order to fund your drug addiction you can at least be happy to know that you're not as pathetic as those awful people who make fun of teenagers who pretend to be depressed. Happy days!

I wouldn't even know what an emo was if it wasn't for people annoyingly whining about them on After Hours.

Such knowledge feels like being raped in the brains, doesn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭Moojuice

Oh no! some kids are dressing weird and listening to music that no one else seems to like. What a surprise!!!, that has never happened before. Big deal, get over it. So what if they do what they do? They are a quiet bunch and dont cause any harm and rather that then being scumbags. Each to their own, and as long as they are not bothering anyone they should be left alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,138 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Jesus, whatever happened to live and let live. Emo kids are annoying and pathetic for sure, but it's normal for people to go through an unlikeable phase at some point in their adolescence. At least emo kids keep out of people's way, unlike skanger kids. When they're a few years older, they'll probably look back on their emo days and cringe.

The people beating them up are exactly the sort of mindless thugs that we could do without.

Kids have been dressing up in 'uniforms of rebellion' and listening to music thier parents hate since the 50s. The difference with the emo kids is that they seem to have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Moany bitches the lot of them. At least punks, grungers, mods, rockers, gothic/industrial heads and doom metally types have a bit of spunk about them - the emo kids just seem to be self obsessed whingers with too much money.

As for the 'at least they're not skangers' argument - of course they're not skangers, they are mostly from rich/middle class families. But yes, skangers are definitly more of a pest than emo kids.

    http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1310894,00.html
A teenager has been convicted of the murder of a young woman who was killed "just for being different."
Brendan Harris, 15, will now be sentenced along with four other teenage gang-members who have already admitted their part in a savage attack in August, 2007.

After the verdict, judge Anthony Russell QC lifted an order banning identification of Harris and 16-year-old Ryan Herbert, who pleaded guilty to the murder earlier.

Sophie and her boyfriend Robert Maltby, 21, dressed differently, wore dark make-up and enjoyed obscure music but they did not necessarily identify themselves as 'goths'.

On August 10th 2007 they were part of a gathering of young people at a skate-park in Bacup, Lancashire.

They were confronted by a gang of alcohol-fuelled teenagers who were intent on trouble. At first they attacked Robert, one was heard to shout: "Let's batter him."

As Sophie cradled her boyfriend's head and pleaded with them to stop they turned on her - Herbert delivered a volley kick to her face with Harris joining in to kick and stamp on her head as she lay on the ground.

During the trial the gang's behaviour was likened to that of a "pack of animals."

Seconds later an hysterical witness called 999 and when paramedics arrived shortly after, Robert and Sophie's facial injuries were so bad that they struggled to identify whether they were male or female.

Sophie died from her injuries two weeks later in intensive care.

One of the investigating officers described how Harris and his mother shocked detectives by laughing as he was questioned by police after being arrested over the young woman's murder.

Robert survived but still has not fully recovered, he said: "In my mind I just really wish she'd just legged it, got out of there, waited til they'd left and come back - I just wish she'd just left me to die if I'm honest."

He said he has lost his "entire world" and revealed they had planned to get married and have children and that it was "just not fair" that everything they had worked for had been taken away from them.

The amateur artist is used to being targeted for looking different, he had run into trouble with those with "small town" attitudes before.

Although he has no memory of the attack itself what he has heard in court has horrified him.

"You don't do that to a young girl, you don't do that to anyone - there are certain codes you have to live by as a man and number one is that you do not beat up a girl, I just don't understand it," he said.

The three other males, two aged 17 and one 16, who still cannot be named, also pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Maltby.

    :(

    its despicable.

And they let kids out of school at what age in britain? I think everyone knows what needs to be a next step. You can't be that young with that much free time on your hands in a 24/hr drinking environment.

    It happens folks.

Punks in 1970's Britain had the same thing, being chased by Teddy boys, etc.

Although MExican emos look very different to our emos as they aren't pale.

Did anyone else find the video surreal?
A bunch of chubby kids in makeup being attacked by chubby kids with mohawks before the Hare Krishnas arrived on the scene banging drums and singing.

Can anyone who speaks spainish tell me what the Hare Krishnas were doing?
