What problems lie for buying foreign S/W for use in Ireland?

Apologies in advance if this is on the wrong forum.

To buy software in Ireland can be expensive. Take any of the Adobe products like Creative Suite, Dreamweaver, and so on. To buy (online) from our friends across the pond is in some cases almost 50% cheaper. When you click your Irish location to buy it, the price goes up drastically for Ireland.

    My question is:
Can I purchase the software, maybe off the shelf, when I am over there in May, bring it back to Ireland, and install it here for business use?

Any insight is appreciated, and thanks in advance.

    Seanie.

The local back up service may not cover you if the product was purchased outside of state. You may be caught out with expensive phone calls back to the source where you purchased the product if you had any queries.

Hhmm, I think I would be willing to take that risk. I already have older versions of some software that I want to upgrade to newer versions (on hardier machines too), and I am already tech savy, so that would not be of concern to me. But thanks for highlighting that issue regardless.

You should have no problems at all with using software bought overseas.

Most support numbers are actually local, and they normally only care that your software is legal and has a valid serial number.

That was what I was thinking. The part I was worried about was whether Captain Bertie would care if he missed out on a few of my tax dollars buying it overseas and bringing it back.

To ask further about this, do you know where to buy software like the Adobe Suites in Ireland, and what their typical prices are? Online at Adobe, once you change your location to Ireland, it becomes an extortion racket.

    No idea.

I bought Adobe Lightroom from a UK retailer, and saved a bit (€40 I think) over the Irish price from the Adobe website.

You could try phoning stores like PC World, Dixons and such to see if they stock it, or even more specialised PC stores.
