Guys I need a bit of help with buying my next racing bike. I've competed in one triathlon and have 'the bug' so im going to keep training. I have a Giant 'Peloton' 1000 which is really old at this stage, the steel frame says it all! I have been looking around and it seems to me that the cheapest bikes are around the €350 mark, when you buy online. I'd love to buy a Giant SCR or Trek 1000, but at €550 they're kinda outside my budget, which is more like €350. If I can find a 2nd hand for €250 or €300 id jump at it.....yes, im cheap!! How do people rate the BeOne Briza,

I'd get it if I knew if it was going to be decent enough, only looking for very entry level here. Oh, and im a medium height of 5'9".

    Thanks

with that kind of a budget i'd stick to 2nd hand, the beone briza looks extremely basic to me with very poor quality shimano parts

Not much out there for €350. By the time you get a good bike at that price it will be in a sorry state.
I had a trek 1000 last summer this is a great bike to start out with, the equipment is more than acceptable unless you want to get very serious about road racing.
I know a lot of guys who use the 1000 for the sunday spin, but the gearing is a bit tough if you want to do hill work. 39 on the front 26 on the back can make hill climbing slow, if you dont have the power.

if the BeOne briza 2.0 is a 'bad buy', would the next priced up bike better any better, in terms of the shimano parts?

If this was the case, I'd go for it, but advise would be greatly appreciated

    thanks

Any Shimano below Tiagra i.e. Sora/2200 are considered not the best, even Tiagra is a budget groupset, ideally if you could stretch to something with 105 it'd be worth it. The Storm 1.0 2007 with 105 groupset is very good value albeit perhaps over your budget. The price of it went down by 50 quid recently, so it's at around 700 euro now. Nearly bought one myself :)

its interesting you say that. I checked and my old racer has shimano RSX, which reputably good. The Trek 1000, which is said to be a good entry level racer, is fitted with Shimano 2200's and Tiagra.....

Halfords have road bikes for around that price. Or if you know anyone going to france anytime, soon, check out www.Decathlon.com

    im confused,

you say the shimano 2200/sora deraillers aren't the best, but the Giant SCR4, Trek 1000 and Medira bikes all come with them. Am I looking at it from the wrong angle?
