    Howdy,

Does anyone know what the story is between these 2? I was looking at doing a research MSc in Galway. The website on NUIG lists DERI as its own. Upon further investigation it seems to be in a totally different world to NUIG.

Does NUIG have a say on who goes in ? Anyone ever apply to either NUIG or DERI ?

Also what sort of issues have people experienced when applying for research degree's with a 2.1 ? Is it a big black mark or is it just the minimum.

2.1's are generally no problem at all. In fact in many courses like EE in UCD the percentage of firsts is tiny anyway.

    DERI is part of NUIG.

You will be conferred by NUIG and it is located very close to the campus on land owned by the university. It is a separate research centre and as such doesn't really fall into any department or faculty. Some IT, some engineering and a small bit of science.

I would advise contacting someone at DERI about whatever you're interested in. They will tell you who to contact at NUIG. If you're going to study there you will have to become a student at NUIG.
