I have been thinking the same, although not from England, have a look at http://www.cavantourism.com/ http://www.countycavan.com and http://www.cavancoco.ie and if you just google county cavan, lots of other webs come up for music, golf etc. hope that sheds a bit of light :)

Fishing, lots and lots of fishing, golf, and if you're in around the Cavan town area you have the cinema, bowling and lots of bands playing in places like McMahons, good night life around the town too.

    hi chub,

Im from the uk as well, would just like to say you have picked the right area, lovely people. We are moving there next week, we moved from Northampton 6 months ago to a different area of ireland originally, we have had ups and downs but now feel that finally cavan is the place for us. Good luck with the move.

You'll love it. Think of it as Provence in the rain - except we drive on the same side of the road as ye do. :)

You'll find the usual stuff to do as Pornapster mentioned. There's also go-karting, cruises on the River Shannon, an ever improving selection of restaurants and the number of chain stores has ballooned in the last few years. There's a beautiful forest park not far from Cavan town.

You've just missed the drama festival :( but there is an arts festival on at the moment.

Probably ye know this already if ye have been here before. But I know it comes as a bit of a shock to some continentals. They come here expecting a nation of 10 or 20 million people and find a mainly empty country of small towns and villages.

It's comparable to England in size but with less than one tenth the population. So things are a lot more spread out and ye won't find everything on the doorstep.

Like I said, probably ye know this already but I've had a few jaw dropping conversations with Poles and Latvians over the last few years who expected Cavan to have a population of 100-200,000 people!

Yes I have been over a few times, I live the country life now, not totally isolated, we have a couple of pubs down the road. Im not into the hustle and bustle of city life.
